Luckily, I have been accepted to several environmental policy programs but I am super torn between the schools because they are ALL such great programs!! I got accepted to Columbia MPA-ESP, USC Public Policy, Michigan(Ann Arbor) Environmental Sustainability, and University of Washington Public Administration with all different sizes of scholarships. Still waiting on the Duke MEM, which was my first choice. Anybody in the agonizing over the same problem??

How have your background and life experiences, including cultural, geographical, financial, educational, or other opportunities or challenges, motivated your decision to pursue a graduate degree at the University of Michigan? This is a prompt of personal (diversity) statement of Michigan. I am a minority who grew up in a war plagued zone and had an uncommon childhood. I have also contributed to diversity in my role as a resident assistant in a college dorm. So, I think I have a decent non-trivial story to tell. However, I am a moron and spent all my time doing mathematics as a kid. And the only reason I am applying to gradschools is I enjoyed working on those problems and want to do so for the rest of my life. And Michigan has one of the best departments in the country, so of course I want to study there. But I am facing a solid writer's block in relating my background to decision of choosing Michigan. Is this part absolutely necessary? Can I just talk about my background and explain how can I contribute to diversity in Michigan? Is there anyone who wrote this statement to Michigan, really tanked it, and still got in?

Hello, I am an international student and I got admits from University of Michigan-Ann Arbor for M.Eng. in Manufacturing Engineering and Virginia Tech for M.S. in Industrial Engineering. I am still confused between the two mostly because of the significant difference in cost. Advantages of UMich: 1. Better ranked university. It’s 2nd compared to Virginia which is 6th. (https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-engineering-schools/industrial-engineering-rankings). 2. Better location 3. I find the course to be better. 4. I got an admit to the Tauber Institute which gives a guaranteed, paid internship. Advantages of VTech: 1. Cheaper than UMich. VTech I-20 amount is approximately $25000 less. 2. It is an M.S. course so I have a higher chance of getting an assistantship. 3. Cost of living is less. I would be glad if people on this forum would give me their opinions.
