  1. Found the other thread from 2018 related to the University of Toronto's iSchool programs very helpful, so thought I would start a thread for this upcoming year. Anyone else apply for the ischool programs for next year? Have you applied to other schools ? I applied to the Master of Information program for fall, and got an acceptance letter in mid January. I submitted my application in early November. I have also applied to the Communication and Culture at Ryerson, but haven't heard back anything from Ryerson yet. The MI program is my preferred program between the two, but I am o
  2. Hey, I want to apply to an MA at UoT in political science for fall 2021 with the goal of following that up with a PhD in political theory in the same university. I tried applying to PhD programs in Sociology in multiple universities but I wasn't accepted and some one from a certain admissions office told me its because my grades in my masters were low. So I decided to start from masters again and be consistent since my actual interests are in political theory and not sociology. I want to know what my chances are of getting accepted in the MA PoliSci program at Uo
  3. Hi- starting this thread for acceptances to MPPA/ public policy programs in the Toronto GTA for September 2020.
  4. I received offers from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at U of T, Waterloo and Mcgill for their MSc Biostatistics programs. There does not appear to be much information out there on biostatistic programs in Canada. Does anyone have any insight on the pros and cons of these three programs? How are they viewed in the biostatistics field? I am not completely decided on a a PhD yet.
  5. Hello everyone, Thought I would make a group for those applying to Master of Health Informatics at University of Toronto for Fall 2017. Perhaps we can keep each other updated regarding interviews, acceptances, etc. Other health informatics programs at other universities are welcome too! Good luck!
  6. Hello! I just wanted to ask for opinions on my graduate application. I will be applying this fall, and this will be my first round of graduate applications! Here is my app. info: - Honours Bachelor of Science in Psychology (University of Ottawa) - GPA: 3.2/4.0 (last two years) (I am currently finishing up three online courses which I am maintaining a 90+ in, which will be added to my previous courses) - Two strong research letters of reference from the University of Ottawa - Honours thesis was on post-concussion syndrome, with regards to working mem
  7. Hi - I am wondering if anyone is applying for the Masters of Health Informatics at the University of Toronto? I am just trying to get my references together. I am not confident in my application because of my GPA (which is lower than I would like) however, I have experience in healthcare. I've seen threads from Fall 2016 and 2017. Just curious.
  8. Hi, everyone! I got offers of admission from both the University of Michigan and the University of Toronto into their information studies respectively (i.e. UMSI and iSchool). I would definitely like to attend the UMSI, but unfortunately I was not awarded any financial aids.. So.. now that I have to pay approximately the 40K tuition + 20K living expenses per year to study at the University of Michigan, I am doubtful whether it is a good decision to choose the UMSI over the U of T's iSchool because the latter would cost much much less (I am a Permanent Resident in Canada, and I would
  9. I started my PhD at the University of Toronto last year in a social science related field. However, I figured out that my research does not match much with the faculty members here. But maybe I could still successfully complete my degree here in a collaborative way as I have found some professors in other departments willing to partially supervise me. However, in the meantime, I applied to Oxford and received a fully funded offer where I have a far better match for my research topic. Besides, the research group is also quant focused methodology-wise. But the difficulty now is that some pe
  10. This is my first time starting a forum so please be kind to me In the past, it looks as if cohort groups start the forum a little later. However, I'm stressing out and I wanted to start a forum that is along the same lines as the ones before it, and use it as a type of support group. I've put all of the programs for P/J divisions together, and thought that this forum coud be used to discuss acceptances, applications, and anything else related. Ill start by talking about my application: I'm in my final year studying public health. The year previous I made Dean's list (fall 2017) and
  11. Did anyone hear back from this program? I think the first wave of offers and rejections came out around March 7th, but haven't heard about anything since then. My status is still "under review."
  12. I've seen some posts on this forum about MA decisions (which are most certainly welcome here as well) but none for PhD and very little about the current year. Has anyone heard back yet?
  13. Hey all, I'm a current graduate student at Carleton University reading for an MA in international affairs (NPSIA). I'm enjoying the content of my studies immensely, but have more or less lost interest in leveraging my degree to work for the public service upon graduation. As NPSIA has a strong focus on placing students within the government, I realize that more schooling will likely be necessary to find employment elsewhere. I've been playing with the idea of pursuing a career in conflict/political journalism for some time now, and have heard good things about the Munk School's Fel
  14. Is there an online live forum to see if History MA acceptance/rejections 2019 have started coming out as yet ?
  15. Hi! I am wondering if anyone has applied for the Masters of Health Informatics at the University of Toronto? Has anyone been called for the interviews? I've seen threads from previous years but couldn't find anything for this year. TIA
  16. Hi guys, this is my first ever post, so I hope to not be doing anything wrong. I am a mechanical engineering undergraduate student from Brazil, and will be applying for graduate school in the US and in Canada for fall 2020 admission. Since the admission process is fairly different from what is done here in my country, I'm not familiar with the credentials that are considered to be good or bad for top schools (I do know, however, that the competition is fierce and sometimes even the best students don't get in), so any advice will be helpful. Here is a brief overview of my CV: Major: Mecha
  17. Trying to decide between1. LSE MSc International Political Economy (1 yr)2. Dual Degree with Sciences Po (International Economic Policy) and the University of Toronto (Global Affairs) (2yrs total)My background is in Investment Banking in Canada. Interested in moving towards a career at the OECD, World Bank, UN etc.Although LSE ranks higher than Sciences Po in most areas I'm concerned that I won't be as competitive without having an internship during my degree.Hoping for some help!Cheers
  18. Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone has heard back in regards to interviews? Thanks ?
  19. Hello, I am applying for 2019 MA in History at U of T. Is it acceptable to go over the word limit for a 500 statement of interest to 700 ? I have been trying really really hard to bring my word count down but I find it so hard to explain my background, my motivation and my thesis topic in 500 words. Just wondering if its a big NO NO to go over the word limit or generally acceptable ? Thanks in advance,
  20. Hi there!! ? I am looking into doing an MSW( and maybe the MSW/JD) at York or U of T, or the MEd in Counselling Psychology at OISE !!! I am looking into these programs w the hopes of providing anti-oppressive, feminist therapy in the future. I am also really interested in working with incarcerated folks. I am finishing up an honours in women's studies, and did my research on first-person narrative as a tool of restorative justice and personal healing. I'm looking for current or past students to discuss the benefits of each program! Some questions to start, How did you like the program? Strengt
  21. Hi MSW pals, I'm a Canadian undergraduate student finishing up the final 3 classes of my honours degree in Women's Studies. As somewhat of a snap decision, I've decided I want to do an MSW for September 2019, if possible. I graduate this Christmas, so I'll have about 8 months to gain more work experience etc. However, I'm feeling really discouraged reading about everyone's experience and hours especially. I'm wondering if it's worth it for me to apply and if folks have any recommendations as to how I may improve my application. I know I have a pretty solid education background, and can g
  22. Hello, Anyone apply to the Master of Health Informatic program at the University of Toronto or the Master of Science in eHealth program at McMaster University for the Fall 2016 semester. If so, feel free to share your statistics. Please also indicate any communication you have received from the institutions including request for interviews, acceptances, and rejections. I personally applied to both programs with a 3.35 cumulative GPA and 3.7 in my final two years with two years of work experience. My first choice will be UFT. Good luck everyone!
  23. Anyone applying for iSchool for the Fall 2018 term? Couldn't find any active forums so I thought I would start one to discuss applications and whatnot!
  24. Hey Everyone! I haven't been able to find a thread for uoft ischool so I thought I would just start it here. I haven't heard back yet, I applied on January 31st for the program as well as OGS, I was wondering if anyone has found out if they have been accepted or rejected yet? I know they told us we would hear by the 3rd, but with that approaching so quickly I just thought it would be useful to have this forum. Best of luck to everyone! Thanks in advance for the responses!
  25. Hey all! I thought I'd make a topic where all of us starting at UofT this fall could connect and discuss! Program: Master of Information (iSchool) Concentration (if relevant): Library and Information Science Campus: St. George I can't wait to hear from more of you! Best of luck to all applicants!
