  1. I can't find admissions results from last year. About what time were notification of admission sent out? Thanks!
  2. Hello, I have been accepted to a partially funded MA at Boston College, a PhD at UConn with full funding, and a PhD at UOregon with full funding (all in English Literature). Would it make sense to take the MA as a way to up my chances at a better school for a PhD later? What do you think of the placement records of UConn and UOregon? How much do you think ranking matters in this process? I see the UO is ranked higher, but to me, it looks like UConn might have better placements. Any advice is greatly appreciated! thank you, Lindsey
  3. How do you choose between schools when you're a good fit at both but in different ways, one is a smidgen more name-brand-y, the other seems a smidgen more collegial, one has a lot of top-notch university resources for professionalization, the other where the department itself seems to have more focus on professionalization, one that has well-known recommenders while the other has (apparently) more involved mentors, one that has no core courses because you're free to build your degree, while the other has core courses that help you better get a handle on disciplinary conventions, one that's located in boring city that's close to a bunch of cool cities and the other which is located in a small college town? Helppppppp
  4. Just found this awesome site! So far, I have heard from 6/7 schools. Waiting to hear from University of Oregon PhD in Media Studies. Has anyone heard from UO? I had an interview on 01/31/17 and they said mid-Feb. for decisions but now we are approaching mid-March. Amitted: George Mason University, University of North Dakota Waitlisted: Penn State University Rejected: Cornell, UC Davis, Washington State (Pullman) Still Waiting: University of Oregon
  5. I'm kinda super bummed out right now, I called UO in January and asked about my status(waitlist). They said I'd have a for sure yes or no answer by the end of Jan. Well Jan has some and gone and I have other offers. I had two undergrad friends who applied there because they thought I was a sure-in. They got in, I didn't. I had a departmental recommendation from their biology faculty. I visited multiple times, I had grad students take me out to coffee and talk about the program. It all looked great. I don't understand what happened. So, I have great other offers with great funding and all sorts of cool benefits including international travel and specialized training. So sie la vie UO. I don't know what I did wrong. God this feels like a breakup letter "Dear John"
  6. I see two people already posted about being invited for an interview from UO. A little surprised I didn't hear anything back. One of the professors was sponsoring me. I guess i'll find out next month. At least I have an interview with FSU. But I don't really want to live in Florida.
