Message to University of Chicago QMSA Program Applicants

Recommended Posts

We would like to invite interested students to apply to the Quantitative Methods and Social
Analysis (QMSA) Program at the University of Chicago. We are actively seeking diverse
students from a wide range of fields including, but not restricted to, the social and behavioral
sciences, biological sciences, physical sciences and engineering, public health and medicine,
public policy, business administration, as well as mathematics and statistics. We also strongly
encourage women and minority students to apply as these demographic groups are currently
underrepresented in the S.T.E.M. fields.

International students, upon graduation from the QMSA program, will be eligible for a three-
year OPT.

The QMSA is a rigorous 1-year master’s degree program in which students receive education in
statistical theory, advanced quantitative methods, and social scientific research and are mentored
one-on-one by a Committee faculty member (https://voices.uchicago.edu/qrmeth/) in developing
a thesis project. Students may participate in ongoing research or conduct independent projects
applying advanced quantitative thinking and analysis to a significant research question.

The QMSA program prepares students to fill the ever-greater demand for scholars who can
innovate methodologically and understand how to use the theory of statistical inference and
cutting-edge techniques to tackle challenging problems in substantive research. Through this
program, students have the opportunity to build strong statistical understanding in quantitative
methods and strengthen their understanding in their chosen field.
