i was struggling so hard with the website as well! i had sent them an email and they got back to me today - this is what they said "Due to great volume of applications, the review committees are asking prospective students to limit this to no more than a page and to focus on the research and long term goals."

not sure how accurate that is though, i know i'm going to struggle to cut it down to that much...

For Waterloo???

Does anyone know how long it takes until Ryerson/TMU lets you upload your supplementary stuff? I just applied now, and it says that it will take up to 5 business days before I can upload anything! That will be past Dec 1st...

That's gonna be tough. It took them 2 days (submitted Nov 15th, received email Nov 17) to send the instruction email to me. Also, they also tell you to not activate your account until 24 hours after receiving the email so thats an additional day.

do we not get to attach a cv for waterloo?

Nope. I emailed to be sure and got a rather snarky reply from the admissions officer. You can only list a maximum of three jobs in the first part of your application (before you pay the fee).

That's what I'm thinking...at least there's opportunity for argument there if the issue arises! Thanks :)

I ended up doing the 2000 words! But now I’m questioning whether that was the right option hahaha. Oh well, already submitted. Hopefully the argument can be made!

that's super frustrating for sure! it does say this as instructions for the statement though "At the end, please include a list of scholarships, prizes, honours, or other recognitions you have earned. Provide the title(s) of any publication(s), major paper(s), or thesis of which you are an author or co-author (if published, give citation)."

but i would assume that counts within the 2000 words, so even then it takes away from the statement itself

Oh gosh, I hate to be the one to bring this here now but I JUST received an email this morning back from them telling me to stick to 2 pages. I hope it doesn't affect your application - I'm sure they won't discard an excellent applicant due to confusing instructions on their end.

oh wow... thanks so much for letting us know! for anyone who hasn't submitted yet, are you planning on doing 2 pages or 2000 words?

mine is close to 1900 words and on its forth round of revisions, not even sure it's worth trying to cut down at this point

If I could go back and make the change, I would!

On the uWaterloo portal:
This Personal Statement (max. 2000 words) is to be uploaded as a single pdf under the Letter item in the Materials list. Students should restrict this uploaded information to the Personal Statement as described above, and not include other documents such as samples of their writing or information that is asked for in other sections of this supplemental application (e.g., Funding Applied For; Psychology Courses). Once you have uploaded the Letter (personal statement), indicate here the date you uploaded your document.

Respectfully, they can kiss my ass if there's a problem ?

did you guys mention volunteering/professional experiences outside of just research in your UTSC or guelph applications?

In my UTSC one, yes because I had about 3 pages to work with. I very briefly mentioned transferable skills from my professional work. I always speak to my volunteer research experience, but not to any other volunteer work. As Guelph had to be one page long, I didn't have the space.

i'm not applying to utsc, but i'm not including any non-research experiences in my guelph statement since it's so short! they let you upload a CV so i would just include detailed descriptions in there :)
