So, I interviewed at Yale for sculpture. They ask you to do a formal presentation of your work to the students and faculty. I was not flustered, I spoke from the heart and hip about my practice.

Accepted to Yale Sculpture!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations to everyone so far! And to you guys who haven't gotten quite what you wanted; don't give up! I don't believe in the theory of No, rather I believe in No(t right now). So keep making th

Hey -- another graphic design person!!

I also applied to UAL! The MA graphics course at CSM to be specific. I think it's quite staggered for UAL in terms of hearing back from admissions at the various colleges.
If you don't mind me asking, what other programs have you applied to?

Nice, hello! Yes, so I've heard. On top of that, I see we're both international students. Was their application timeline a little vague for you? Camberwell's MA Illustration page stated there was "no deadline" for int'l students (they just recommended to apply asap), though after I'd sent in initial requirements (transcript, immigration form), they replied with my PebblePad account details informing me the deadline was January 30, 2017. Did you have a similar experience?

I've also applied to RISD and SCAD (both for Graphic Design) and SVA (for Illustration). How about you? Wishing the best of luck to you with your own applications :D

Thanks!! The interview is by phone (they asked my preference) on 2/9/17. I'll be interviewing with the program director, so I've got some time to frantically research her and plan out good questions.

I applied to RCA, Glasgow and Yale (all for the MA Graphic Design programs). Aw man, I wanted to apply to RISD as well!

Agreed - the application process was not detailed enough for UAL international applicants. I tried to do everything online but I was finding it a bit difficult to assemble my portfolio (I found the requirements vague). In the end I just reached out to the Canadian rep for UAL and she was so helpful - she advised me on my application and portfolio supplement. I emailed her all of my documents and she submitted it on my behalf ... It began as the most difficult application and ended up being the smoothest in the end haha.

Good luck with your applications as well! Perhaps we'll cross paths in London if we get accepted to UAL! ^_^

Ah, you had a rep, no wonder! That's good - there are actually no UAL reps in my own country; I'd searched the website and found out the one closest to me was in Hong Kong, lol. So I had to carry out my application myself. But I'm glad for you :) Here's hoping we'll meet each other in UAL!

@pdh12 you're applying literary, no?

@turkeyslug yeah Iowa! Tho, not painting -- ceramics. Im quite familiar with the department tho -- John Dilg is/has been making really amazing work (and others on faculty). Additionally, the Grant Wood Fellowship brings in a rolling cast of really great artists/teachers (they teach one class/contribute to grad workshops etc + are afforded a studio). This year Tameka Norris is there -- her work is fantastic.

@Cengstro Tameka Norris is pretty rad! A friend of mine is doing grad school in Ceramics there.

@Vespertine Congratulations! My advice, don't be bullied into making a decision. I would try to wait out as much as possible to see what other options that are available and take the one that best suits you; come on, folks at Tyler know this. They've been to grad school. None the less Congratulations and good luck with the rest of your applications.

Thank you! I'm definitely going to wait it out as much as possible.

Best of luck to everyone else in here too! February is going to be a long month...

Hi there, I have been keeping tabs on this forum for a while (secretly), this is my first year applying to grad school, so I'm kind of freaking out at the moment. Any other painters out there applying to UIowa?

I went to Iowa for undergrad! Painting faculty is awesome, Susan White is my hero! David Ratcliffe is also an awesome faculty. Unfortunately Tameka Norris won't be there next year, but their Grant Wood fellows are always great every year. There's a bunch of bureaucratic bs and politics you have to deal with there tho....

I still live in Iowa City and having access to their art library post grad has been amazing.

Yea I was looking at faculty work when I was considering what schools to apply to and I agree Dilg is AMAZING. I hadn't heard about the Grant Wood Fellowship, that's a pretty nice perk, bringing in crazy talented artists to teach.

Susan White is phenomenal, I love art that references architecture! Moving past that...AAAAAAAHHHHH nnnnnnnnooooo I was warned by one of my professors about UIowa because he had a student who went there a couple years back, that did not like the grad program but that was printmaking and as I understand it had something to do with the other students. I was really hoping it was just printmaking, I even emailed current painting students to double check out of paranoia, they didn't say anything about it... This sucks I really liked their painting program too... Thanks for the heads up meghanmetier I will be sure to keep this in mind!

Don't take this the wrong way, but what does that even mean? "references architecture" During undergrad that phrase was thrown around so much that I am always suspicious when it is used. Architecture is both a broad and expansive word and field.

I was referring specifically to the structures that appear in some Sarah White linear pyrograph work that resemble abstract scaffolding or just construction sites in general. I probably didn't use the best words the first time, no worries no offense taken!

@meghanmetier actually, i'm pretty sure tameka norris is taking a professorship here after her fellowship is done. i met with her last semester and she mentioned something like that!!

Oh that's fucking awesome.

So two years ago, there was a protest following the non-indictment for the cop that murdered Eric Garner. The next day, a fellow (not black) installed a sculpture of a KKK outfit with a security camera inside on the spot of the protest to gather reactions. With no context on the spot to explain the "piece."

Traumatized black students who's initial reaction was the KKK has a prescence in campus. Refused to apologize and work with black student groups. And brought a lot of discussion about critical engagement in the dt department with no resolution.

They also gutted the intermedia department this year, which was the first of its kind. Also was the only department that focused on critical engagement and theory.

So....

Iowa def needs people like Tameka on faculty jeeeeesh.

Hi all,

First time poster joining the fray with you guys.  My friend who applied last year told me about this forum and now that I'm almost done with applications I guess am ready to check it out.  I've been an emotional nutcase just like everyone else.  Glad to see I'm in good company here.

@Vespertine Congrats to the acceptance from Tyler!  Which program?

I had a skype interview for Tyler's Fiber and Material Studies program on Wednesday.  I couldn't believe how fast that happened!  I have a feeling that since I haven't heard back yet that I'm not receiving a first round offer.  FMS only has two students/year.  Super stressful.  Anyone been offered a spot from Fiber?

Working on my last application today to Cranbrook!  Anyone else have that left to go?

I haven't heard back from anywhere else yet.  Also submitted to SAIC, VCU and Washington University in St. Louis (WashU).

Good luck everyone!  My mantra is MFA 2017!  Hopefully that will get it done.

@franster Thank you! Photography :)

I wouldn't read too much into not hearing back yet... could still be interviews to finish up etc. Fingers crossed for you though!

I'm hoping the reason why @sylviecerise and i haven't heard back yet is hopefully painting & sculpture gets a shitton more applicants.

Congrats by the way!!1
