Fall 18 applicants OR/ISE/MSE

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

Saw a very informative thread with some active discussion for Fall 17 (link above) so thought I should replicate it for Fall 18.

Lets get to know each other better!

Sure I guess I'll get started!

What schools/programs are you all applying for?

I'm aiming for OR/IEOR PhD programs at Stanford, MIT, Columbia, Northwestern, Berkeley, Cornell, CMU, Princeton, Georgia Tech. Safety is my undergrad institution. I have interest in financial engineering, and optimization theory

I'm a final year undergrad in Canada. I've done summer research with profs in industrial engineering, financial mathematics, material science. Thesis is related to constrained optimization. No publications though.

I guess most applications have already been submitted, good luck to you all!

I'm also interested in financial engineering and applied to the PhD programs at MIT, Princeton, and Columbia. Short list I know, but had some geographical constraints to make grad school work.

I'm a domestic applicant who has been an industry for almost six years now, 2 years at a big NY investment bank in asset management and 4 years at a major hedge fund. Hoping that my experience makes up for some shortcomings academically, where I have an MS in Financial Engineering and good grad/undergrad GPA, but they're both from a mid-tier (top 40) undergrad institution and I have no academic research history save for a few major projects in my programs. I'm curious to see how I'll be viewed by admissions committees.

Good luck to all - we'll find out soon enough!

Interesting profile! Columbia and Princeton are both known for FE so I think you made the right choices there.

According to the results page, Columbia has sent out some interview requests this week, I'm not sure if interviews are part of the process for everyone. Haven't heard anything yet from MIT Princeton or Columbia.

Has anyone heard anything more from the schools that workingforgradschool listed? Seems like there's some traction for interviews on GT, Columbia (+1 acceptance), & Princeton, a few results from Berkeley, then not much more. I haven't heard anything, interview or otherwise. Maybe next week?

They might not necessarily interview all people who they want to accept.

I didn't get an interview from Princeton or Columbia. Still haven't heard from Berkeley or Northwestern after an interview.

Georgia Tech did send out a few offers today.
