Undergrad Institution: Small & Public - you haven't heard of it
Major(s): Chemistry
Minor(s): Chemistry
GPA in major: 4.0
Overall GPA: 3.671828
Type of Student: Domestick

GRE Scores (revised version):
Q: 162 (81%)
V: 163 (93%)
W: 4.5 (83%)
S: 880 (94%)

Research Experience: Two solid years; two full time summers & a lot of time during the semester (maybe a bit too much time; see overall GPA).
Awards/Honors/Recognitions: A good amount of departmental awards and some small national and statewide recognition; industry funded summer research at home institution. Was hoping for an REU but go shut out - kudos to those of you who got to do chemistry cross' country
Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Designed curricula and lead recitations for organic chemistry. Work as a lab assistant and got to do some cool things with the available instrumentation.
Any Miscellaneous Accomplishments that Might Help: Submitted my NSF GRFP? This was a busy semester and if there is one thing I am proud of, its coming up with an NSF proposal from scratch. I learned a lot and it was great to really dig into something, come up with an idea, and figure out how to pursue it.

Presentations: Three national conferences, five regional.
Misc. Points: Did very well on ACS standardized exams (>99th percentile). Have a clear focus on what field of research I want to pursue - made that very clear in the SOPs.
Any Other Info: First author publication in submission (good lord, that was that a lot of work)
Applying to Where: Princeton, Caltech, Wisc. - Mad., UIUC, U Mich., Scripps (If I get in, I'm going) UCI, Columbia (Why did you have to move to Cornell, Lambert!)

Some days, I feel like I have a good shot. Other days, I'm bracing myself for the inevitable mass rejection. Anyone else feel like this?

I think you have a strong profile if your research experience fits that of the groups at the schools you are applying for!

Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Master's thesis involved full-time research.

Any Miscellaneous Accomplishments that Might Help: Presented a poster in a regional ACS meeting. One publication, nothing exceptional.

Special Bonus Points: Talked to a Prof. in UCI I want to work with. He seemed interested.

I don’t know too much about the schools you are applying to because I am mostly applying on the west coast. However, your credentials look pretty strong IMO (aside from the 2.5 on AW, which probably doesn’t matter too much).

One thing that strikes me as a bit odd is your lack of a subject test score. Did you take it? Aren’t those scores pretty heavily weighted for international students?

This is the official superposition of the application party, friend. Welcome aboard.

But let me tell you; you have a sick-looking application file and I believe that your eventual eigenstate will be the former; not the latter. Even if you don't have high hopes for yourself, I have them here for you!

Unfortunately, I missed the October reservation of the exam and the next one is on April 2018 which is beyond application timeline.

Darn. Well maybe some international students can weigh in on how much that will effect your chances at those specific schools. I’m domestic so I can’t help much.

I have several friends (international applicants) who did not take the subject test but were admitted to their chosen institutions.

Thanks, i really was worried it would affect my chances. Do you propose any school that i have a good chance to get into ?

My apologies but I don't think I can properly assess anyone's chance for admission as I am also applying for Fall 2018.

I am worried as the online system says Michigan has not received my transcript - anyone else? Don’t know if they just haven’t updated the system or not... I’m wary the deadline is in five days :S

I am not familiar with all those schools, but I was under the impression that a lot of these didn't have terminal MS's and usually only accepted for PhD route. Can I ask why you're going for a master's instead of a PhD?

I actually think your stats are quite good, especially with the  chem classes not too bad. UCs are mostly well known research schools, so I imagine you'll be fine.

I'm interested in conservation science, which means I'm looking at analytical or materials for the most part. Some of the higher ranked schools may be out of my reach but my advisors have told me not to count myself out for anything yet. I had a pretty unique undergrad experience and I've got no clue if or how that'll factor into decisions :X
