  1. Hi Everyone, For PhD education, how does PROFESSOR reputation or UNIVERSITY reputation play its role for getting faculty positions or research positions at national labs? I chose a university with lesser reputation, though, reputed, over other highly reputed universities but has the best professor in my field along with research I liked the most. Plus I have very high chances of getting papers published at significant journals of my field with the professor I chose. Will the U rep hamper my chances to be a faculty in future as I see graduates of universities (I rejected) being faculties? Thanks
  2. Hey guys, I have decided to go to U Minnesota-Twin Cities as I felt I was more interested to work with a professor there. I am really glad with my decision. Best wishes to everyone up there.
  3. I have been admitted to UIUC, Yale, U Minnesota-Twin Cities and Northwestern with prestigious fellowships and full PhD funding. However, based on visits and discussion here on Forum, I have narrowed down my list to U Minnesota-Twin Cities and Northwestern. U Minnesota-Twin Cities Aerospace Engineering: has the best professor in my field in US if not in the world; more specifically in reacting and hyper-sonic flows (I am an international student, though :/) that are my strong research interests. I will also have opportunities to go to NASA Ames Research Center at California to work in a non-ITAR project that uses his code. So it should be great fun. Strong ties to NASA. Northwestern: It has one of the best professors in C.F.D. (Biological Propulsion) who publishes papers in Nature, Science and other high impact factor journals. I like his research works but never done in that area specifically as I worked more in reacting and hyper-sonic flows. Furthermore, Northwestern is more prestigious in over all university ranking and flexible. I am guaranteed to get summer internships at Ford/ other great companies. Strong ties to Argonne National lab (great for CFD). I want to be a research scientist in a National Lab. Both professors are very powerful who can land me anywhere I want. Only 4 days are left :/ So can anyone help me to solve the problem in the simpliest and easiest way? Thank you in advance

  5. Thank you all but is there some other people who can put more lights on this issue? Deadline to accept the offers is nearing and I am getting nervous.
  6. Hi everyone, I have been admitted to Yale, Northwestern (Mechanical) and U Minnesota Twin Cities (Aerospace) with full 5 year funding (though, I will try to finish within 3-4 years) in all. Ranking wise: Yale = Northwestern > U Minnesota-Twin Cities Professor wise: U Minnesota-Twin Cities > Northwestern = Yale, though, all are still great. Weather wise: Northwestern > Yale > U Minnesota-Twin Cities Research wise: U Minnesota-Twin Cities slightly edges Northwestern and Yale both My dream is to work in a National Laboratory in Computational Fluid Dynamics in future as a research scientist. So if you were me, how would you choose the best school among these schools?
  7. that I have been admitted to other schools and ask her about the possible date of acceptance from her department since the deadline to accepts offers from the other schools is April 15 i.e. just few weeks from now. Do you guys suggest me to send this to my best POI this sort of emails as I am afraid they can even cross the deadline April 15 as per the previous years history in results section? Millions of thanks!
  8. Hi guys, I am a PhD applicant to Stanford ME and was wondering if anyone has heard anything about a PhD decision from the ME dept. Please share your profile so that I can gauge my chances for admission. I am also waiting for the decision from the dept. Let us all hope for the best! Cheers!
  9. Hi guys, I have been denied admission to one of my top choices for PhD and sent DGS an email if I can be reconsidered as admitted students leave admission spots to go their top choice university. Is it OK if I did that and how likelihood is it to get admitted after being rejected if I have mentioned him in the email that I have received fellowships from other excellent schools but this university particularly remains my top choice? I know it is weird but nothing is IMPOSSIBLE, right?
  10. Yes, I am also in CFD. Where did you get admitted to as of now? Who is your POI there: You can PM me.
  11. Can anyone share their experiences if relevant to the thread topic above? Waiting is killing me
  12. Hi Tuschu, From what I heard they do not take MS to do PhD there often. But, who knows we can get in! So what is your research field? What about your acceptances?
  13. Has anyone heard from this prestigious program? Came to know that they only hire their MS. Rarely take MS from other universities Any feed back? My POI, luckily, replied me that he would inform me if I fall in his narrow selection. :/
