Petroleum Engineering grad school 2015

Hi there

i have yet to find a topic on petroleum engineering,i am an international prospective student and i am planning to apply for fall 2015 in the US. I applied last year but sadly got tons of rejection letters . i realized my SOP was weak and i didn't clearly state my research interests. i have no research experience except for what i did in my UG (chem engineering- 2012) but i have been working offshore as a field engineer for about two years now. Any prospective students or anyone who has gone through this application process for grad school willing to share any tips?
