I got my bsc degree (major chemistry, minor biochemistry) from a world-ranked 30 university with a cgpa2.8. I have 1-2 year reeearch experience in bioanlytical and medical field. I also have one year experience as an undergraduate TA. My gre is v145, q164, aw3.0. My toefl is waiting to be released. I am aiming at a US university ranked 50+ for PHD. Are thete any chances for this? I will retake my Gre general in late nov also.

 I agree that you should retake the test, but be carefull about the dates. Retaking the test in late November is very very late. Being an international student, the cutoff dates for the application process are earlier for you, so you will definitley want to triple check that your scores will be displayed with enough time to have them sent to the individual schools. As for your chances at a top 50 institution, maybe? Is the cgpa the chemistry gpa or cum. gpa? Either way it is somewhat low, especially for an international student where the competition is usually greater. Do you have a decent Chemistry GRE? From what I understand, most international applicants have pretty outstanding Subject Test scores. Undergrad T.A positions help as nice little "tid-bits" to add to an application/SOP but they dont really do much good in terms of gaining acceptance. Your GRE, research experience, GPA and LORS will ultimatley decide your future. What field of chemistry and potential schools are you looking at? That will help everyone make have a clearer idea of your intentions.

My cgpa is a chemistry gpa. I know it is quite low. I have got my toefl score today, which is 101. As an international student, my subject test score is not satisfactory. I know my competitiveness is pretty low. So I would mainly try university ranked 50-100. I am interested in the biochemistry or analytical field, which I have some research experience in both field.

What's worrisome about your profile is not only your Chemistry gpa is way too low, but also your verbal+writing portion of GRE is raising red flags (verbal %ile is 25%, which may be interpreted as low proficiency in English).

How strong are your rec letters? Have you published? Does your undergrad research advisor have any connections with American profs? These can boost your apps, but unfortunately your chances in top 50 is low...

I have juz took my second GRE test. My verbal is 150 and quantitative is 165. I am waiting for my anlytical writing score. I have contacted my referee and hope they would mainly highlight my research ability. Due to some reasons, I don't have any publications. I have decided to apply University of Virginia. And I am still looking for some other universities.

More likely than not you're going to be rejected. Your GPA is below the minimum requirements, it is possible to still get accepted with such, if somebody from the graduate program fights for you. That said, unless you have made contact with a professor who is willing to do such your GRE score makes it exceedingly unlikely that the program will take up that fight.
