  1. HI all, Here is how my name appears in various documents, (1) Transcripts, GRE, publications, patents etc.- firstname T. surname (T.- initial) (2) Passport and TOEFL- firstname TXXXX surname (TXXXX- expanded version of the inital T in name(1) ) where TXXXX is the father name. I am going to use name(2) for the applications. So how do I let the adcom people know of the name (1), so that there wont be any issues in pairing the received GRE scores, transripts etc. with my application? Where can I specify this in the application? Am I supposed to mention this in SOP and resume also? Plz leave your suggestions here.
  2. thank you all.. btw i got similar opinions from several people. Dont sweat on awa guys... write a solid sop. Any combination of a good verbal, a solid sop, better toefl score and publications will compensate for awa.
  3. Hey, dont worry. Three weeks are just more than sufficient. The key to feel normal during the test is to take as many practice tests as possible. I spent 2 weeks and took about 15 to 20 practice tests. Gre became an everyday task and there was not a single 'panicky' pulse on the day of actual test. But I had got tense multiple times during several practice tests and had lost a large chunk of my marks by messing up entire reading comp sections. But I was inured to gre's panick inducing questions and sections, by the time i gave gre. Just go through magoosh and manhattan verbals (again); take up kaplan and manhattan tests or any other practice tests you have access to (at least 15 timed tests, to reduce anxiety on the test day). That will for sure harden you. BTW my first practice score was 142, in two months my avg practice scores reached 158 and got 160 in gre. So three weeks are sufficient, to reach beyond 160 from 152. Dedicate last 10 days for practice tests and their detailed reviews.
  4. I managed to get 170 in quant and 160 in verbal. But i got my awa today, its just 3 MS specialization in wireless communications (from an IIT, India), i have published a paper in ieee transactions on comm and in globecom proceedings. I am applying for phd now. My toefl score is 113 (30 30 26 27-writing) Plz suggest some ways to compensate for this low awa score (nope, not going to retake gre, that ship has sailed).
