  1. hey IOgradHopeful! Look into Dr. Oswald at Rice, Dr. LeBreton at Penn State, and Dr. Zickar at BGSU. I know they broadly share those interests. Hopefully that is helpful!
  2. I don't exactly know how helpful this will be but... I was a varsity athlete at Michigan state and we worked very closely with the sports psych students my senior year. It seems like they had a lot of opportunity to work directly with athletes and quite a bit of freedom when working with us. They all seemed very happy as well and had great relationships with faculty. This very well may be the norm and FSU has a similar experience but I figured I'd give my two cents. Good luck!
  3. While I agree that it is unlikely, it is not impossible. I was emailed for a phone interview about a week ago from a school that hadn't invited me for the in person interview. Apparently I had been at the top of the waitlist from the beginning but nobody told me. Don't give up hope just yet!
  4. A lot of this is very specific to the lab in which you work. I work as an RA now during the day and it is expected of us to do independent projects with data that he has given us or have collected under his supervision. We have meetings every Friday where RA's and current grad students present their projects and get feedback. It is also highly encouraged if not expected that these projects lead to presentations if not publications. That being said, I do not think my experience is the norm. We are only allowed to work part-time at VERY low pay. All the RA's have second and third jobs just to make ends meet but the experience is worth it for a year or two if it means you will be accepted into grad school. Our professor sends roughly 6 RA's a year to funded Ph.D. programs and that is his goal. I think the biggest thing is not only finding a place where you can excel but where also the professor actually cares about your success. I understand that these experiences are hard to come by but if you have some opportunities to meet with professors and get a gauge on the expectations of their lab beforehand, you might find a place where you will have the opportunities to do higher level work.
  5. BGSU is taking between 6-8 (I think) and Penn State is taking 4
  6. It was for the Ph.D program and just to set up a phone interview. I declined as I have already accepted an offer at BGSU. They were my other top choice though and I had written them off as a rejection since I hadn't heard anything...
  7. Just in case anyone is interested, Penn State is starting to notify individuals on the waitlist. I had not heard a word from them until today.
  8. I just accepted my offer at BGSU. I am very excited!
  9. I just released an offer from Wayne State University. Hopefully that helps someone on the waitlist!
  10. I also haven't heard anything. I am taking it as a bad sign at this point....
  11. Hello GoBruins! I was also accepted at BGSU. I look forward to meeting you at the recruitment weekend!
  12. I applied to Rice as well but haven't heard anything.
  13. Hello Munashi! Do you know when Penn State is planning to start sending out interviews? I noticed that last year there was a post from January 17th about an interview invite and the following week the year prior. Thanks!
  14. Hello all! I am excited (and really nervous) to be applying this year. I have solidified my list of schools and am in the midst of working through applications. It’s been pretty stressful so far as I want to make everything perfect… whatever that means. My stats are as follows: GPA: 3.72 (Last two years : 3.86) GRE scores are 162 V, 153 Q, and 4.0 on writing. I am taking it again in October in hopes of raising my quant score as I know that it’s horrendous. Research experience: 1.5 years of research experience as an undergrad in two different labs. 1.5 years as a paid research assistant after undergrad working on a $4 Mil NIH grant. 8 months working for a well-known consulting firm in I/O. I also have 5 poster presentations (2 as first author), 1 publication where I am first author, 3 round tables, a workshop where I am first author, and I had the opportunity to sit on a review board for conference submissions. I will have two letters of rec from professors whose lab I worked/work in and one letter from my boss at the I/O consulting firm. I feel like I’m a decent applicant but this process seems so arbitrary that I am just terrified how it will all turn out. Thanks for getting the thread going and good luck to everyone this application cycle!!
