  1. Well I received my rejection from Texas today as well, on my birthday nonetheless. Happy birthday to me..... So I'm out of three schools (OU, UT, CSM), waitlisted at two schools (Kansas, Texas Tech) and yet to hear from two schools (A&M, UH). I would update it on the bottom banner (?) if I knew how. Congrats to all who have received good news.
  2. Ok, so I emailed one of my POI's and it seems as though I'm on some sort of waitlist (maybe rejection list), but this is what he said, any insight would help: "It is good to hear from you. The admissions committee deemed that you are admissible to the graduate program in geophysics. However, it is departmental policy to only accept students that can be supported on a GRA or GTA. At this time my GRAs are committed to current students. I have one pending proposal that can potentially provide GRA support, but I do not know yet. The GTA pool is extremely competitive because it includes students from all geology sub-disciplines. Currently you are placed in the GTA pool “waiting list” and we are waiting to see how that evolves. I will let you know as soon as I have more information. Good luck finishing your studies this semester." and later after I replied (I asked about how often GTA's become available): "GTA offers are a moving target. Some offers we make are turned down, but we do not hear from students for a while. Then a student that has accepted a GTA gets put on a GRA because a grant gets funded so the GTA is released. So it is hard to predict the outcome. I will keep an eye on the GTA situation and let you know if something changes." What do you all think...? I should say he was very quick to reply my emails, and is generally a very friendly person towards me.
  3. I know some acceptances, as well as rejections have gone out. Also, I have not heard of acceptances in geophysics. The reason I bring it up is that I did have good contact with my POI there, through emails and met at AGU
  4. Well unfortunately for me I have been rejected from two places, Colorado School of Mines, and OU... Do you guys think it would be wise to contact my POI at Kansas? I'm waiting for five other schools but I'm down right now :/
  5. Hey everyone, sorry to be posting a little late, but here it goes. Give me your opinion! Special Bonus Points: Several grad classes in geophysics and computing with geophysical data. Two of my LOR are from my institution, one is from a different institution out of state (a professor from my REU). One of my institution LOR writers worked for 13 yrs at one of the institutions I am applying to and works with four different POI's out of the seven institutions I am applying to. The other two are relatively well known...Have met/talked with POI's from 4/7 institutions Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: I am a student athlete Applying to Where: UT Austin - JSG - MS Geophysics University of Kansas - MS Geophysics University of Oklahoma- MS Geophysics Texas Tech - MS Geophysics Texas A&M - MS Geophysics CSM - MS Geophysics UH - MS Geophysics I've had some good experience, and the courses I've taken are reflective of that.
