  1. As I previously said, I have full funding from Emory Epi for two years, but was also accepted to UW Epi. After emailing about 50 (!) faculty members at UW, I finally found funding at UW for at least a year (with the possibility of extension for the full length of the program depending on performance). UW was a better fit for my interests and I will be going there. Funding is definitely tough right now due to NIH cuts though!
  2. I've got full funding at Emory. I really liked the school, campus, and research, and professors seem really supportive. I'm still searching for funding at UW so I can visit and give it a shot. Have emailed about 40 professors so far, with one potential hit but I'm not sure yet. To those who went to UW visit day, did it seem like all PhD students ended up with TA or RA funding before matriculating? Professors have told me that nearly everyone does find funding, but I'm worried about passing up a sure thing at Emory for a "probable" thing elsewhere. UW is great though, and I love Seattle.
  3. Good luck! It's very odd that they don't have a spreadsheet or list of funding online. Would make it way easier for students and faculty.
  4. I was unable to attend visit days. Did it seem like some students accept admission without funding, and find it after arriving on campus in the fall? I'd love to attend UW and Seattle is great, but I have full funding elsewhere and it seems too risky to do that.
  5. Was anyone who was accepted into the Epi PhD program at UW able to get funding? If so, how much and how? I've emailed 3 training grant coordinators and many different professors and haven't had any luck. Thanks!
  6. Has anyone heard from Berkeley Epi yet? Saw one acceptance from early Feb in the results section.
  7. I saw the Emory stats and had the same reaction. Great that they're publishing it, and also a little scary! One important thing to consider is that many students are going straight from undergrad, so they have zero work experience when they graduate. The pay for those with work experience is likely higher. Another is that the cost of living in Atlanta is pretty low (at least compared to the Northeast where I'm from), so the salary figures are a lot better than they seem at first glance. I'm actually a PhD applicant, and am considering going to Emory. They sent us a list of employment for recent PhD grads, and it looked pretty good. Only one person in a postdoc. The rest were in industry or academia. Obviously, academia is very competitive, but the outlook for public health grads in academia seems a bit better than it is in the humanities at least, since many public health grads decide to go into industry or government instead.
  8. Thanks for the Berkeley update. Got rejected from Columbia and Hopkins today, Harvard yesterday. In at Emory and UW so far. Was really surprised by Columbia, thought I matched well and had good conversations with faculty there. Feeling shell-shocked. I guess it's a total crap-shoot though considering how competitive the programs are. Hope everyone is holding up ok!
  9. Good to hear about Atlanta! Was rejected from Harvard yesterday. Surprised we still haven't heard from Columbia...
  10. Congrats on UNC! Still waiting to hear from them, application status just says "Submitted". I'm not too confident about funding at UW: all the fellowships that match my interests aren't accepting new pre-doctoral students and professors don't have much funding for TA and RAships. I'll likely end up at Emory (they fully fund) unless I get money at Columbia or UNC by some miracle. A bit scared about Atlanta coming from the northeast! Haven't heard from Harvard yet, but I'm not expecting much as they've already sent out some acceptances. Seems like not many people have heard back from Berkeley either?
  11. Congrats as well Sea Turtles! I'm nervous about funding too. @Machaon01, I haven't heard anything from Yale (no interview), or Columbia post-interview. Fingers crossed!
  12. I've noticed rejections from UNC and Hopkins posted recently. Were the Hopkins rejections posted only by people who were interviewed? Or have non-interviewed people received official rejections as well? I haven't heard anything from either school, and I'm worried my application wasn't reviewed. Both applications use applyyourself, and I'm worried I messed something up. As an aside, I was accepted at Emory last week, as well as UW, and interviewed at Columbia last week. Applied to Berkeley, Harvard, and Yale as well.
