  1. As someone who lives in Florida now (from NY) and went to USF now going to NSU... it's totally worth it. It's beautiful and I would die if I had to move out of state.
  2. replying to this topic to bump for newly accepted individuals to chat here instead of the results page. there's a new facebook page too
  3. I'm a USF alumni. It's a great school.
  4. Anyone here accepted for the Summer or Fall 2013 live program in Tampa? Orientation is in May. I'm curious if anyone here will also be attending.
  5. USF is a great school with an amazing graduate program. My alma mater. Congrats to those accepted.
  6. You are more likely to get in if you're bilingual. Edit: In Spanish.
  7. This person had a high GRE and high GPA. Did a honors research project and two professors wrote a recommendation for her. I was shocked that she was rejected.
  8. USF is super competitive. FSU is even worse. I know someone who had a near 4.0, was told they'd get in, attended as an undergrad, and was still rejected. When I heard that story, it made me realize how messed up FSU and the graduate school process can be. Also, you are more likely to get in if you're bilingual, especially in Spanish with a 3.2.
  9. Congrats to those accepted. Boo to the colleges that give decisions out in April. Such a long wait...
  10. Someone in financial aid told me that graduate students can only receive unsubsidized loans. But the latter part of what you said is definitely true and something else I've heard. If you work for the school system, for example, for a certain amount of years, your loans can be forgiven. Here's an article http://www.usnews.com/education/best-graduate-schools/top-graduate-schools/paying/articles/2012/03/13/grad-students-to-lose-federal-loan-subsidyhttp://www.usnews.com/education/best-graduate-schools/top-graduate-schools/paying/articles/2012/03/13/grad-students-to-lose-federal-loan-subsidy
  11. It's too bad you can't receive federal grants as a graduate student. I am going to be so broke after this.
  12. So has anyone heard from Florida International University? I know I want to stay in Tampa, but I'm curious as to whether I'd get accepted there...
  13. Thank you. I was rejected twice before lol Just goes to show you that you should: never give up
  14. Great. I'm sure you'll get in. I'll be in the Tampa live this summer. I live in Tampa right now (moved from Blkyn) and I can't afford to go anywhere else. USF's requirements are too high, so I didn't bother. And I don't want to leave Tampa. So NSU was my only option. NSU is very expensive since it is private. Is LaSalle equally as bad? Orientation in May. I have to take some prereqs that was not offered at my previous institution. I start either May 6 or May 13. I'm thinking it's the the latter. Right now I'm trying to figure out how much I'll need to take out in loans for 3 prereq classes in the summer for NSU. I'm getting ahead of myself, but do you even expect less here at thegradcafe
  15. It did go well, because I got accepted Edit: I also have SLPA experience on my hands.

We'll see. I believe FIU is a little later in decision making process. I've got a month or two left to wait. I doubt I'll get accepted
  17. How was the interview? My interview was pretty intense because my grades sucked. It was with the actual head of the department.

That's both exciting and nerve-wracking. Good luck, all!
  19. - Clinic appropriate clothing: This probably varies from place to place but my normal attire was ballerina flats (dressy yet comfortable), button-up/nice sweater, and skirt/dress pants. Just make sure you feel comfortable in them, especially if you are working with kids. - Recorder: http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-VN-702PC-Voice-Recorder/dp/B006ZW4HY2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357253320&sr=8-1&keywords=olympus+recorder - Wrist watch with a second hand: It probably is up to you if you want digital or analog.Analog looks more professional, but a digital would have the added advantage of a stopwatch. - Stopwatch: useful in certain situations (especially assessments) - Clipboard: Maybe even one with storage - Some way to keep papers organized: I'd use a binder with plastic folders. Just to keep things organized! - Water bottle: Keep one with you at all times! Most programs provide copy machines, laminators, games, paper, craft materials, snacks. You might need a 3-hole-puncher. Do keep an eye out for motivational things for clients. Pay attention to what they're interested in and buy them it. Good luck!
  20. I know schools like USF require uniforms during clinic and casual but professional attire outside of clinic. USF is pretty strict, though.
  21. Has anyone heard from Florida International?

Did anyone get an offer yet or are FIU decisions really in April?
  23. How do you go about registering for classes? I hear you'll do that at orientation, but what about financial aid? Have you gotten it figured out yet?
  24. Apply to Nova. I got in with the same grades. You'll just need to re-take the SPEECH courses you earned below a B in!
