  1. Well I was wrong, apparently. Accepted to Columbia today. Too bad that department has little money though. Kinda weird since Columbia has excellent departments in so many other fields including chemistry. I'm also unofficially wait-listed at UPenn and my application is apparently still being considered at UDel. Guess I have to wait a little more before I hear back from every school. I'm keeping my options open and will evaluate each program as I visit it. It feels pretty good to have this many options though. Carnegie Mellon - Accepted Johns Hopkins - Accepted Georgia Tech - Accepted Rutgers - Accepted Columbia - Accepted UPenn - Wait-listed U Delaware - Waiting MIT - Rejected Princeton - Rejected Yale - Rejected
  2. Thanks, DStory. If you haven't already been contacted for a phone interview by Yale, it's a rejection.
  3. So here's where I am now, but I don't think any other acceptances are coming at this point. Carnegie Mellon - Accepted Johns Hopkins - Accepted Georgia Tech - Accepted Rutgers - Accepted-ish MIT - Rejected Princeton - Rejected Yale - Rejected UPenn - Waiting U Delaware - Waiting Columbia - Waiting Looking forward to my visits in March
  4. I was accepted by JHU last week. They're offering me a scholarship in addition to the standard stipend so I'm feeling positive about my chances although I haven't heard anything else yet.
  5. Well, there doesn't seem to be any threads for ChE applicants this year so I thought I would start one. I've seen a few acceptances on the results search so maybe people have news to share. I applied for PhD programs at: MIT, Princeton, JHU, CMU, GA Tech, U Delaware, UPenn, Yale, Rutgers, and Columbia. I submitted my apps in early December and so far I haven't heard anything back except an email from MIT stating that they processed my application and it was complete. Most of the deadlines for my programs are in January so I'm not expecting to hear anything until the end of this month or early next month, but who knows! Anyone else?
  6. That's what I heard about the GRE too but I really have no idea what 'poorly' is relative to the best schools. I feel like I did well enough but just wanted some other opinions. Coming from an engineering school, I feel stupid that I didn't get a 170 but I knew from taking practice tests that I was bound to get 2-3 wrong because of stupid mistakes or some slip up rather than not knowing enough math. Maybe if I retook it I'd get 2 wrong instead of 3 but I don't think I'd get a perfect score. My recs are not coming from big names but will be coming from people who I've done research with and know me well, so I'd say they're good.
  7. Hey everyone, I will be applying to ChE and BME PhD programs this fall at top schools (MIT, UPenn, Johns Hopkins, Yale, etc). I got my GRE scores today: Q165 (790-800 old scale, 92nd percentile), V157 (560 old scale, 73rd percentile), AW5.0 (92nd percentile). I'm not asking for chances but what I want to know is if these scores are good enough so I don't need to worry about having my application hurt by them. I think I have a very solid application in all other respects. I have a high GPA & perfect major GPA from a top undergrad ChE school, 2.5 years of research experience in both academia and industry, good letters of recommendation, and a nice story to tell in my personal statement. I currently work as a research scientist in the pharmaceutical industry. I just need some assurance that I can put the GREs behind me and focus on finishing up my applications. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
