  1. Hello All,

I have a Bachelor's degree from St. John's University in NY in Psych.

    Hello,

I applied for NYU, Teachers College and University of Cambridge in London. NYU denied me but thankfully, I got into COlumbia and Cambridge for an MA in Developmental Psyhchology and an MPhil in SOical and Developmental respectively. Both of the have offered me small funding.. However, Cambridge offered it a little later, so I had already made full preparations for Columbia. Apartment, Registered for classes, visited the campus, met with professors, made small down payment.

I know they are both great school, but which do I choose?

I have intentions of living either in the Caribbean (Trinidad) or in the US. Eventually I'd like to do some work in research, a little clinical maybe, academic work and advocacy for family issues.

I'm an American, so the work opportunities during grad school are better at Columbia, but am I giving up an amazing opportunity by saying no to Cambridge???

PLease offer some feedback. I really need the advice.

    Thank You

  3. I'd definitely recommend living outside of Manhattan; Queens and Brooklyn are great options, with lower rent. Brooklyn is especially great if you're going to NYU, it's an easy subway trip into downtown Manhattan. I'm hoping to get into their Psychology program, and plan to remain in Queens if I do, it's about a 30 minute commute from Astoria.

Check out the mta site- http://www.mta.info, that will give you a better idea of where in Brooklyn you might want to live (NYU is 8th street on the Q/N/W line).

Roommates are always a good idea in NY. I live with my boyfriend, in a small but comfortable 1 bedroom, both of us working full time, and we aren't rich, but we certainly don't go hungry. 35k should be a comfortable salary if you have even just 1 roommate who also works.

If you get a chance to visit, that's the best way to get to know the neighborhoods. Not being a Brooklyn resident myself, I don't know that much, but even some good old internet searching should give you a good idea of what's best for you, what's close to the subway, what the rent prices are like, etc.

    Good luck!

    Hi

Did you apply to NYU Steinhardt for Psychology. I havent gotten a response from them and I'm just wondering.

  4. I got a few credit points from the enrollment of TC for the Dev Psych programme. Fin Aid said they will be giving out more award information before the end of April. I'm hopeful!!! I havent gotten any response from NYU Steinhardt though for their Social Psyh. programme.

I figure there will be lots of programmes with a little money attached when I start TC.

Anyone have info about these kinds of programmes??
