  1. So quiet! Everyone busy with applications, I'm sure. But we all have time for a poll and a little fun! What is the most ridiculous backdoor brag you have ever heard from a fellow Art Historian and/or graduate student? This question is prompted by a girl in my MA program who just posted on Facebook: "Today is further proof that my expert knowledge of American Art has ruined the Whitney! Missing a simpler time when I could simply visit to enjoy the art, rather than becoming infuriated with the disastrous inconsistencies on their didactic panels!!!" Ugggghhhhh.
  2. ^^ not accurate. You were admitted to a very prestigious institution... when you were 18. What you did for the four years following matters. That said, I agree that your application overall is strong and that your weak freshman grades won't be held against you. I just disagree with losemygrip's assertion that where you went to school wholly trumps what you accomplished there.
  3. That is an outdated research photograph taken from R.W. Livingstone's The Legacy of Greece, published in 1923. It appears there as fig. 7, between pages 176 and 177. The bust was discovered in the Villa of the Papyri in Herculaneum, and Livingstone identifies its figure as Aristotle, and dates it to the 4th century. The bust is now held by the Museo archeologico nazionale di Napoli, where it is known as Bust of Democritus, inventory number 5602.
