Did you apply to some safety schools?

Thanks, I'm trying to do just that- and I'm working on forcing the "but I would live in Texas..." thoughts out of my head. I'm such a Canadian.

Anyone know how many applicants Columbia admits? I'm so nervous about this one.

I think it's a bit unreasonable to ask when decisions will be made, if they have been made, or where you stand on it. The process is daunting and takes a lot of time and energy out of faculty, so of course they might be annoyed by these questions. But I agree that when you spend $70-125 applying to a school plus $25 per school to send your GRE scores, you have a bit of a right to inquiries. For example, if you get a paper accepted for publication or win a huge doctoral scholarship, those sorts of things might actually be useful to admissions committees.

Me too. We need to all be on some kind of island/in person support group through this process.

A paper of mine was just officially accepted with a good journal (and one of which some professors at schools that I applied to and haven't heard from are on the advisory board for). Should I notify schools of this, or would it be annoying?

This is unbelievably depressing. I guess having a perfect 4.3/4.3 grad GPA from a Master's program, almost all A+s in philosophy from undergrad, an almost publication, conference presentation experience including an international professional philosophy conference... count for nothing.

Why do you think you're rejection from Toronto? Also, not sure why you keep emailing schools. They get annoyed.

For those who have not heard from Toronto, does your application status say "under review" or "decision made"?

I'm kinda dying inside right now. No news from Toronto, even though a few people have been accepted. No news from Maryland, although a few people have been rejected. CUNY and Michigan had some results out by now last year.

Texas Austin, Columbia, CUNY, Michigan Ann Arbor, Toronto, Boston, Maryland... But I'm already in a Canadian PhD program, so "safety" schools not necessary.

That acceptance must feel good! I have two rejections (MIT, UNC) and haven't heard back from anywhere else. I have no hope for Yale, Harvard, or Arizona though. I'm holding on to tiny shreds of hope but my hope is likely unwarranted.

I don't think you can check it online. I'm making assumptions about my rejection from the 2 admits on GradCafe search results... which is perhaps overly pessimistic. But well, it's Harvard. And I applied and haven't heard from MIT and Arizona too. Getting pretty awful.
