  1. I just heard from NYU Steinhardt - REJECTION - Only hope left is Maryland. I'm assuming this one is a rejection as well at this point. Well guess I have to regroup and give it another shot next year
  2. Yes I am in Hartford. Originally from NC but been here for 9 years since college due to work. Wow a lot of experience between the both of you. I wish you both the best of luck. CHagen - I love the Dumb and Dumber reference - HAHAHA.
  3. So, while we wait anxiously checking our emails 50x a day I'm curious about people applying this time around. What does everyone do? How long have you been out of school or coming right out of masters program? Age? etc. I applied to Media and culture based programs. I'm 31. I went back in school for my masters in 2009 after 6 years of no school. I got my masters in May 2012 and now I'm hoping to get in a PHD program (please God -ha). I've been working in the media field (television) for the past 9 years and recently I started teaching as an adjunct at a University and online courses. I absolutely love teaching. It's definitely more of where my heart is. So what is everyone else's background? This wait is killing me!!! HA
  4. Caffeinated - I am just waiting on Maryland and NYU. Things got a little crazy this time around and I only got everything in to four schools. I'm 0-2 so far. I got my fingers crossed with both of these programs!
  5. Juliii and agej - I sent an email to them. I was hesitant to but luckily I had a good reason - HA. My application kept saying that my transcripts were missing so I emailed about that to make sure that they were there. They did have my transcripts so that was a relief. He also responded and said that they will be making final decisions by April 15!!!! Looks like they are taking it all the way to the deadline. I'm going to stop going nuts over it now - LOL Wow agej!!! Congratulations on all those schools you got into. I have received nothing but rejections!!!
  6. Sorry I was busy and didn't get back to the form but I was referring to UPenn Annenberg earlier. This waiting game is driving me nuts for NYU and Maryland!!
  7. I see Dknows has heard from NYU. Should I have heard from them by now with either an acceptance or not? Maybe I should check my spam folder! I am waiting on NYU and Maryland. I was rejected by Annenberg and UNC Chapel Hill a month or so ago. I'm getting nervous about not hearing anything yet from the other two!
  8. I am going through applications for PHD programs. I have contacted faculty members in some of my programs but not all. If there are some you haven't applied for yet I encourage you to reach out to those universities because I found it helpful in shaping my application, particular the Statement of purpose. They gave great advice about how to approach it and things to include. However, it is ok to contact after sending your application as well. I feel like the process is just like the working world. If a name is fresh in someone's mind the greater chance it is for you to be accepted. Remember you don't have to have all the answers - you aren't expected to be a scholar at this point. Good luck!
  9. Thanks for the advice.
  10. Hello everyone. I am applying for PHD schools. I took the GRE before my Masters program back in 2009 and I didn't score well. It was a 970 - translates into 147 verbal and 146 quantitative. I got a 5.0 on the writing. Fortunately, I did get in a Masters program and finished with a 3.7 GPA. I did it still working full time. I have 9 years of work experience in the television industry, and have been serving as an adjunct at two different universities this fall semester and will this spring as well. (Intro to Human Communication, Development of Sports Media, and Intro to Broadcasting, and Intro to Communication at the other university). I'm hoping that my work experience, masters work, statement of purpose and recent teaching work will weigh heavier than my GRE scores (Lord I hate standardized tests). Do you feel my GRE scores will limit me from getting into a school?
