  1. Hello, To those considering the Ed.D- how much of a factor do you think the change over to the Ph.D will be on the value of the (then-defunct) Ed.D? Everyone I've spoken to at HGSE (students/POI) say that it is purely an administrative change, but I can't shake this feeling that in 10,20 years there may be significant career implications to holding an Ed.D even if from HGSE. I am not set on either pursuing academia or non-academia (am open to either) but don't know what the corresponding implications would be. It's slightly more well-known internationally than my other option but that's NOT the case from a research/academia perspective. However, in non-US academia, would for example World Bank or international universities care more for an Ed.D from Harvard versus a Ph.D from another school? If there are any current students who can voice the general sentiment, that'd be great as well! I am considering a variety of factors in my decision and this is one that has me most confused. Thanks!
  2. I also got a follow-up email yesterday or so that said something along the lines of 'you may have received an email stating that the application for CIE is still open, but that was an error...'. I have nothing updated on the nextstep account or the application account. Hope all these tidbits are helpful. At least it shows something's moving administratively.
  3. I've been called-- though just got a vm so haven't officially heard any unofficial news, but I applied for the QPAE concentration.
  4. Maybe it was specific to the comp & international program..?
  5. Something that's funny is today I got an email from TC that said that the master's application deadline was extended and still open! I am definitely not applying to the master's program so I wonder if they've made decisions already and are 'hinting'. I believe I'm an overall competitive applicant, although my research interests are pretty far from the faculty in the int. ed. program, so I'm not immediately jumping to any conclusions-- I just thought it was a bit amusing and wanted to share.
  6. I applied, but no word at all =). I don't think my fit was very good for TC though (applied to the international ed program ph.d)
  7. I had a one-way video Skype interview with my POI. She couldn't turn on her video screen, so all I did was focus on the camera the whole time, pretending it was her face. I took just a few glimpses of myself in the small self-view portion of Skype but tried to ignore it most of the time. HTH, I know you are describing something a little different.
  8. So it was pretty informal (I prepped way too much for a 20 minute conversation), and she mostly had questions about my app; nothing too difficult to respond to.I think it was because of my multi-disciplinary interest. I didn't ask if these sort of 'interviews' were a standard part of the process, or if everyone who was accepted was interviewed first, so perhaps one could get accepted without an interview if there are no outstanding questions-- so some optimism EW and pheng!
  9. Hello, Has anyone ever gotten an invitation to skype with your POI? I received an email asking to chat so I was wondering what sorts of questions and overall tone of the conversation may be. I didn't realize this was part of the phd application process so any information would be helpful =) (I applied to SHIPS).
  10. I had that happen during the doctoral deadline and this is what the office said: "Thank you for your interest in the Stanford Graduate School of Education! As long as we have two letters of recommendation in we can forward your application for review. It would be in your best interest to get your third recommender to submit ASAP because there is no guarantee it will be reviewed if it is received after the deadline." So if you are a master's applicant, maybe the same leeway is given? HTH
  11. I applied for QPAE. I emailed the admissions specifically asking about how the ph.d/ed.d integration would work and was told that there would be no opportunity to convert into the new program from the ed.d. Not sure how this affects the pool, I had the same question as you, The Other Creek!
  12. SHIPS as well! Hope for better results this time around :]
  13. Hey EW33, I did previously apply (and am re-applying) to SUSE a few years ago. I heard back from a professor with a very nice rejection in late January. I would imagine that acceptances would be around that time frame. Good luck!
