  1. I am also interested in global health and access to health care my specialty is family planning. I am finishing my MSN (nursing) and am considering a DrPH. What made you guys decide to choose PhD rather than DrPH? As a RN I am more interested in "hands on" public health rather than research. Just wanted to hear your thoughts.

  2. I have to agree -there's something wrong when there's more laws to get a license to drive than to buy a firearm. There's been several videos posted that show people being able to walk into a gun store and walk right out with a gun. How is this ok?

  3. This may sound too simplified but life is too short to be that miserable. What is important in your life -your husband and doing what you love. I am not in your field so I am not familar in dealing with PIs but I will say I would NOT tolerate that treatment. I have always enjoyed school and cannot imagine being in a lab for 8-10 hrs a day and dealing with that. It's demeaning and you should not have to put up with that.

  4. I am a Registered Nurse and have worked in public health with social workers. They love their job but will tell you the pay is horrible and the job emotionally draining. My suggestion is to actually speak with people already working in the 2 fields you are interested in. I am a strong believer that you must love what you do but it also has to pay the bills. Just reading your posts -it seems you are more passionate about the psychology path. Good luck - you'll make the right decision.

  5. I am a single Mom with a 12 year old daughter and the only way I was able to go back to school and pursue my Masters is by doing it online. I have NO social life but am almost finishing my degree, working 30 hrs a week as a Registered Nurse, and still being a good parent  . Next step is my DNP but plan to take a year off of school. You can do it!

  6. I am completing my Masters in Nursing and plan to apply to a DrPH program for the reasons others have stated -interested in more practice than research. I, however, DO NOT feel my MSN was a waste of time as my specialty electives were PH (epi, health policy, etc..) My main interest is global health and reproductive health (and in the future teaching) and having a MSN with a DrPH will be the most beneficial for my path.
