  1. Hello all, I got accepted to about 6 public policy masters programs that I will be turning down in favor of a phd acceptance - the thing is, i am currently traveling europe at the moment and dont have my laptop with me that has all my program logins & the such...basically, what will happen if i cant turn down these programs by the deadline? Do they even care? Would i be able to reapply theoretically in the future? Not that it matters, but no one likes to burn bridges... Insights sppreciated - sent from my iphone, dont mind the errors. - Rich

  5. FrenchO & others that received the Johnson Fellowship...Can you share your stats please? That would be great...Also, whoever said they're going to visit UT-A...save yourself the trip, imho, Austin is one of the best cities to live in right now...I hope I get some good funding news...
  6. So far... Applied: NYU, U of MD, GWU, U of Mich, UofChicago, UT-Austin, & Indiana... Accepted: U of MD, UT-Austin, Indiana... Rejected: None so far... No word on funding from any of my 3 acceptances...Should I call to follow up about this? I just got the UT-A acceptance today and it doesn't even have a reference number, but this is info I need to know! Anyone else here from the others on my list?
  7. Hey everyone, I'm looking for similar advice...but I'm in a slightly different spot... So, I'm interviewing for a business phd as well of course & I interviewed with the phd director last week & he gave me a friendly tone, just telling me about the program, trying to gauge me as a person, my interests, etc...not too intense, but of course I felt like I did horrible...Anyhow... I got an email from a prominent faculty member in the field that I'm applying for and they basically said that they are impressed with me as a candidate & he/she wants to talk with me further... Now, he didn't really mention specifics...but I also want to make sure I'm asking meaningful questions, I feel like I already asked the PhD director all my pressing questions...What more should I ask? How should I prepare? Thanks to anyone who reads this & gives me some advice!! Appreciate it...
  8. As far as your research interests and content area, I can't speak to that. Just looking at it from the perspective of a writer, I would work on its general "readability" you have your rough draft, but I would break it up into more manageable paragraphs and try to attain a more natural / logical flow to your ideas. Definitely find an English major or writing center to help edit it for you. -My 2 cents
  9. Hello everyone, I am making applications to some top public policy schools, I am unsure if I stand an actual chance, but I figure that I need to give it a shot & I wanted to share my essay strategy and see what you guys think... schools: NYU MPA UMICH MPP UT MPP UMD MPP GW MPP I have worked for a government public safety agency for the past 5 yrs during the summer, I have been a school teacher in an urban school system for 2 yrs & this year I am working as a school teacher for the Spanish government...I hold a BS in Finance with a 3.9 GPA & scored 310 on the GRE (159 verbal, 151 quant, 4.5 writing) Anyhow, I am looking a writing an SOP and being fairly broad with my research interests, is this ill-advised to talk about my multiple areas of public service interest and also to basically say that I could see myself in several public service roles down the road & not just limit myself to one particular type of role or profession in public service? For example, when I look at my career goals...I could see myself working to support international development by for an international nonprofit or the U.S. government...Or I could see myself working for the Dept of Ed. or a nonprofit thinktank working in policy research to disseminate ideas about best educational practices? ...How specific should I be? Am I shooting myself in the foot if I state multiple career paths, or should I be firm in what my specific career path is? I have a passion for public service, just trying to get an idea of how to best convey it... Thanks for any advice you can offer! Your responses are appreciated! Thanks
