Rinairy, I believe I phrased my last post wrong. I haven't received a CLEA, but I applied for Azeri and also had to fill out a form with budget and timeline. I submitted it over two weeks ago, but have not heard anything since... I am an alternate to Azerbaijan, so maybe they will let me know if I get bumped up to principal? We'll see, congratulations on yours!!

Has anyone else heard about a CLEA?

OD09- When did you first hear you were an alternate to Thailand? I am trying to gauge the time frame of when alternates find out. Obviously, we cannot guess when more money becomes available but how long do principals have to accept/decline their grants? I found out I was an alternate in a letter dated April 16, so I am thinking if I don't hear by mid-May all hope is lost.

BrintonA, Congratulations!! Have you had any language training in Tajik? Or will you be a beginner when you begin your award? I just submitted my proposal last week for the CLEA and am still waiting to hear.

To everyone who has been accepted, how long do you have to accept or reject the grant?

There cannot be as many alternates as principal grants, because there are only 1.5-2 times the amount of grants recommended to the country. If there were as many alternates as grantees, then no one would be rejected.

I was recently named an alternate to Azerbaijan, and I was pretty excited about it. Anything is better than being rejected, even if it means you have to wait a bit longer. I had a question about the alternate status though, because Azerbaijan is part of Eurasia, which splits 10 grants among 5 countries. No country is guaranteed any grants, so if Georgia has 10 outstanding applicants that year, they get 10 and the other countries get none. I doubt it is ever this cut and dry, however. In regards to alternate status, would I be part of Eurasia, so if someone from Moldova declined I could take their funding and go to Azerbaijan? Somewhat confusing, but if anyone knows how this works please let me know! Thank you, and congratulations to everyone who has been accepted!
