Right?? Do you think it will be a group conference with the whole committee? That's what the email made it sound like. I was expecting to be able to at least know who I'll be talking to. Edit: Jk, they just emailed me and told me the committee members.

I heard back from Caltech Neurobiology yesterday. Apparently they are doing interviews via video calls on google hangouts, then having a recruitment weekend later on.
-
Yeah, it really sucks that they're doing this. I believe I will be going to Harvard and Princeton's normal dates, and asking Columbia to reschedule. Alla seemed to think it wouldn't be a problem, though I haven't heard anything back yet. I got a voicemail/email from a specific professor on the admissions comittee. When I called back and spoke him he told me that the formal invites had been sent out via mail today. So there's still some luck!
-
Nope, not a thing.
-
With the storm and all I wouldn't expect to hear anything from MIT until Monday.
-
May I ask how you are scheduling your Harvard/Princeton/Columbia interviews? I am having the same problem
-
AxonAxoff and uberneuron, it seems like I will also be bumping in to you two a bit! That is good news about MIT, I also applied to the systems track.
-
Congrats!! Also strange, I didn't think anyone would be sending them the day after Christmas!
-
Just had my own question answered, Jan 23rd-25th, and Feb 6th-8th.

Did anyone here get the Columbia interview? If so what weekend is it?

Thank you!! It took a lot of work...basically I changed every aspect of my application that I could. I'll rattle it off. I graduated last January, and since then have been working in a well known lab at a top university. I have a publication that I did not have last year. I retook the GRE, and my score improved from 158Q /159V /4 AW to 168Q/ 162V/ 4.5 AW. My undergrad institution was a decent school, but far from top for neuroscience. I did independent research as an undergrad, but didn't have any publications from it. My GPA was and still is a 3.7, though this semester I took a class at the university I work at. I am told that some committees can be very snobbish about which schools people come from, so the class here might have helped combat that attitude (as well as the improved GREs). I definitely have an improved feel for the field now, and think that reflected in my essays and such. Looking back at my SoP from last year makes me cringe a little bit.... I also I think that your application gets better just by applying again, which shows dedication in wanting do science. Anyway...I think that's everything. I was honestly surprised to receive the interviews that I did. Everyone was sure that I would do fine this time around, but I really thought I was a competitive candidate last year too so all my bets were off.

Princeton is Feb 7th (with Feb 6th and 8th as travel dates) Harvard is Jan. 23rd-26th
-
@gellert: thanks!!! I'm really excited! This is my second time around...last year I applied to 10 schools and got zero interviews.
-
Interview at Harvard! Their date is Jan. 23rd-26th
-
I was wondering this myself too. I am just afraid that it could look contrived.
-
How late was it? On their website they say that they accept supplemental materials up to two weeks after, as long as the main application is submitted by the deadline.
-
Which track did you apply to?? BCS is one of my top choices...I think they send out rolling invites though...
-
@eal09: I applied to Neurobiology, which is a brand new program. I had a hard time deciding not to apply to CNS, but I was afraid that I would be discarded since I don't have an extensive math/CS background. @imitosis: thanks! definitely good to know
-
Is the person that got an interview at MIT BCS in this thread? If so, which track did you apply to?
-
Ah okay! That's good news then!
-
Hey! Welcome! Which Caltech program did you apply to? CNS or neurobio?
-
Yeah, they sent out their interviews last Friday. I don't think they are sending out more since the deadline to rsvp is thursday. I'm sorry man
-
Just got an interview from Princeton! So excited! Their weekend is Feb 7th.
-
Did anyone here apply to Caltech's Neurobiology program? The website indicates that it's a pretty new program. Historically I think that people usually apply to their Computation & Neural Systems program, but I was afraid that I lacked the computational background for that.
-
It sounds like it would be a good option, but I don't think I have the background to go into a Masters or PhD in it. I majored in neuroscience in college, and only took math through linear algebra & diff eq.
