Some people are still reporting getting the award, so i'm guessing they're not at a final list yet. Maybe after then they'll post it? Or maybe in September?
-
The GRE counts a little bit for NDSEG, but is combined with GPA/transcript, I think. I don't remember if NSF asks for GRE, but if they do, it's not heavily weighted.
-
Could be a lot of people got NSF too and couldn't accept both.

Got it! Does anyone know how to tell which defense office/agency sponsors you?
I think eventually they will put up a 2015 awardees list on the site, like they have for 2012-14 currently. This has the sponsoring office listed for each person. But from what I can tell currently, no they haven't said which agency is sponsoring.

Looks like this is already settled, but having interviewed at Pitt for comp bio, I was very much not impressed. CMU might be totally different, but if anyone out there has an interview for the joint program in comp bio, make sure you know which school they're considering you for or else you might be wasting your time.

Hey team,
I'm looking for advice on picking a computational biology program (between Yale, Cornell Tri-I, and UC Berkeley). I'm pretty sure I know where I'm leaning, but your thoughts would be helpful.
I'm coming from a molecular bio background, and my primary educational goals are to improve my applied math and CS skills. I'm mostly interested in doing structural bio/molecular dynamics/systems bio research. Location is important... I'd prefer to be somewhere reasonably cosmopolitan mostly for my personal life (dating, whatnot). Campus vibe and reputation are also important. I want to be with the smartest peers and faculty I can, in a place with good teaching/mentoring, that's recognized as one of the top universities (by employers in science/other industry), and preferably where students enjoy their lives and like their school.
So... which would you pick?
Thanks!

Official rejection from Stanford. Glad to finally know. Now just waiting for Berkeley to give me the official no.
Another no thanks from Stanford. But UCSF is also a great option! I got a no thanks from them, but a miracle invite from Berkeley (somehow...).
-
I have a little hope but I guess it's time to prepare for the worst case scenario. Do you remember if you sent in your app before December 1 or did you wait it out until the second deadline December 16? By the way, your stats are amazing.
I sent it in before 12/1. I have good grades and test scores, but I don't have a good research background and I didn't take any CS courses in college... my CS background is self taught over the last year. Hence the rejects from UCSF and MIT (and probably all the others at this point except Cornell...).

I only applied to two computational biology programs, Duke and CMU/Pitt. It was my own stupid fault for not writing my SOP earlier. I just wish they would reject me, since they have both already sent invites. This way I at least I can wholeheartedly cogitate my failure in life.
I think I'm the only one who posted a CMU/Pitt invitation, and it's a big program. I'm guessing they're not done sending out invites.

.
I'm doing comp bio too, you're not alone. Just part of a family of lurkers
Me too... just got a no thank you from UCSF. Didn't feel as bad as I thought it would... someone just posted a reject with a 990 GRE subject test. Clearly they have high standards

Just heard from CMU-Pitt computational biology. The interview weekend is 2/16-2/17
-
Just called UCSF IPQB... they just started sending out interview invites, and have more to send. According to the coordinator, "no news really is no news." So... those of you who were perhaps super depressed when you saw the invites go out on the results search shouldn't be
-
Yeah I applied to CSBi... looks like they sent out a rejection. I haven't heard anything.... which I guess is good/neutral?

I'd like to take a quick opinion poll. How many interviews would you have to do before you'd feel confident about your shot at getting accepted into a program?
You have to assess what an interview means at different schools. At some schools, an interview means you'll almost certainly get accepted (unless you obviously screw up the interview). At others, it might mean you have a 50% chance. Idk if there are schools where it's less than that, but they definitely don't invite tons of people they're not interested in for interviews, given the expense.
For me, I would probably be pretty comfortable with 4 interviews.

I was very nervous until I got my first interview. Then I kind of relaxed. Now I'm kind of nervous again...
