  1. Congrats SLPtoBeWeeeee!! I got in too! Surprised and honored. I'm still waiting on a TxState answer, but I think the choice is pretty clear. SpeechPathLove- The email is not personalized, but is very clearly for someone who is accepted. I would imagine they have a declined email as well.
  2. I heard whispers of Monday, from a professor I know to a student I know. But when we started, the projected date to announce was the first week of March, so who knows.
  3. Again, just hearsay, but I got some news about TxState too. An extremely high number of applicants this year, and no decisions have been made as of yet. Their website says April, but I see responses on the results page here that have gone into May.
  4. I realize this is a serious thread, but every time I see it come up, I just hear "slip slop." In my head. :-) I don't really have any advice to contribute, seeing as how I don't know if my SOP was successful or not (still waiting), but I will post my tips here when I find out!
  5. And as far as it taking so long, I do appreciate that they're considering each application so carefully. It's really hard to be patient, but I guess it's nice to know that each SOP is being read and weighed against the numbers and such. I do wish it were easier to decipher what each program is looking for in a candidate year to year. It makes me wonder for example, if they admitted a ton of people who said in their SOP that they want to focus on children, does that mean they're more inclined to admit those focusing on adults this time around? *shrug*
  6. SLPtobeWeeee, it's a little tense, but there's also kind of a sense of camaraderie just because we all know we're in the same boat. Everybody knows its competitive, but the other undergrads seem to be really into being supportive which is nice UT was my dream undergrad, so I already feel really lucky, having come in as a transfer. It sucks though, because moving isn't an option for me, so it's TxsState and UT. I wish I had the option to apply to a ton of schools to increase my chances. It's a great place, here's hoping we both get in!
  7. Yeah, I think my mom is almost as nervous as I am. I hate telling her "not yet," over and over again! It really is crazy how many apps they get for such a small program. I hope more programs start opening up, or that the existing ones can get better funding to expand. I know competitive is good because it produces good Master's candidates, but a 3.8 average accepted GPA is just a little excessive.
  8. Hahahaaa! @ Speechpathlove7 Exactly. That's like one of us heading over to the med school boards trying to pick up dates. "Oooh, I hear doctors make a lot of money... I can ease your stress." Blech. ANYWAY, back to the waiting.
  9. 2 posts. Troll? Um. No thanks. Try Match.com. Also, and maybe I'm just on edge, but if you picked this major for the cute girls, I *sincerely* hope that you don't get an acceptance that would go to a more deserving candidate. Gross.
  10. The person I heard it from got that info from a professor, but no word on the number of applicants. Again, it really is hearsay as far as I'm concerned, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
  11. Brace yourselves. I'm an undergrad there, and I'm hearing whispers of Monday now. Nothing confirmed.
  12. Texas State could be anywhere from late march to late April, so I hear. UT Austin will be the week of 3/18
  13. Why is the above poster so surprised about scholarships for mothers? I'm not a mother, but you can bet your a$$ I think they deserve some help. I grew up with a single mom who struggled to find jobs to pay the bills because she never finished her degree. I can't even imagine trying to do school and work to support anyone other than myself... doing that is hard enough as it is. Anyway, I'm also white, female, and married to boot. Nobody thinks I need help If I come across anything I'll post it here.
  14. Upward-trending GPAs can certainly say a lot. When I transferred to undergrad University from community college, my GPA was 3.1 with the average admitted transfer being at 3.75. I had gone part time the first 30 hours and had a 2.8 or something like that, but the last 30 before I transferred were 3.75 and then 3.8 semesters, I like to think that had a lot to do with me getting in even with a low overall GPA. Granted, that was undergrad, but if they have a compelling story to explain the change of heart (and grades), it might work. With that said, SLP is HIGHLY, HIGHLY competitive. I don't think it's that difficult of a field, but there is a shortage of educators and therefore programs. Even highly qualified applicants are being turned down one after another because there's just no room. If your friend would consider physical or occupational therapy (also focusing on special needs), I think they could give themselves a more realistic, fighting chance. I don't have time to do the math for you, but I'm thinking to even get an overall 3.1, your friend would have to ACE every. single. class for the next 60 hours. I have yet to meet a student who's done that, and I know some smart people. :-) I know that's probably not what you want to hear, but I just think they may be setting them up for failure- not because they aren't capable, but because there just aren't enough programs out there for below-average candidates to have a high probability of getting in.
  15. I'm totally freaking out because I'm not moving for grad school, so I've only applied to the 2 in my area. I have a 3.63 overall, 3.81 major GPA and GRE 315, but both schools are extremely competitive- UT Austin and Texas State. I have 2 semesters of volunteering, but other applicants have been doing research since Freshman year. Texas State is not highly ranked, but their acceptance rate is almost identical to UTA's. SO, my backup plan is SLP-A wherever I can get it. I have a sales job right now that would do nothing to better my application if I don't get in this year. SLP-A jobs are few and far between here, so even if I have to have a long commute I will take any related position I can get if I don't get it. It sucks for everyone waiting to hear, but it's especially hard when I'm already way older than everyone because I just want to get in and get to work!
  16. I like this game! 3.6 Overall GPA 3.8 Major GPA V-165, Q-150, W- 4.5 Non-traditional student, 10 years of non-related work experience 3 semesters of related volunteering and research Highly competitive field- Speech Language Pathology Applying to UT Austin and Tx State (Can't move)
