UT Southwestern FINALLY sent out their rejections. About freaking time haha.
-
Hey! Hopefully there are more people lurking on this site going to UTMB, I can't find anything. I'm going into the Experimental Pathology PhD program. Has anyone already figured out where they want to live?
-
Holy crap, just got accepted to another program as well! Apparently today is my lucky day!
-
Thanks, genesplicer! Congrats on getting accepted to Purdue! My PI went there for his undergrad
-
Just got accepted pre-interview to the Experimental Pathology program at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. My top choice, I am so excited!!!!
-
The Experimental Pathology program at University of Texas Medical Branch. They have a BSL-4 lab :3 And thank you!! Belated congratulations on getting accepted to UTSW!

Just got an email from the director of my top choice program wanting to know when I would be available to talk on the phone about my application and the graduate program. I think my heart is about to beat out of my chest!! Ahhhhh!!!!
-
Is anyone here applying to UTMB in Galveston? I got a call from an admissions committee member to talk about my application last Tuesday afternoon and I haven't heard anything since then. He said he wanted a bit more information about me than was on my application - this by no means was a formal interview. I got the impression that if the committee liked my application, I would get an in-person interview offer. Is that pretty much par for the course?
-
Haha, I had thought until a few weeks ago that my fiance would be getting a job in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, so I limited myself to schools around there. Maybe not the smartest decision ever, but so it goes. I don't mind Texas so much
-
First acceptance!! It's not my first choice program, but it's nice to know that at least one school thinks I don't suck.
-
I just talked to someone at the graduate school on the phone and she said they would most likely not be extending any more interview offers past the week of February 11th, but official rejections wouldn't come until April 15. Boo :C
-
Thanks! Who did you call to check on your status?
-
Ahhhh!! I don't know if I can take another month of waiting. I had actually been debating whether or not to email the dean about my application, but now I have a timeline to work with. Did they say anything about rejections? Or do you think they'll wait until March 1st and send out a mass email to anyone who didn't get an interview spot?
-
I have not heard anything either since I was told I was on a "Hold" list on the 14th. I met one of the associate deans when she came as a guest lecturer to a class last semester and we've emailed back and forth a few times when I had questions about the application and whatnot. What she told me was that they needed to go through the entire applicant pool before extending people on the list interview offers. The final application deadline is Friday, so hopefully we'll be hearing from them soon!
-
Aww, that's awesome. Thank you.
-
Noooooo. Just got an email from the dean at UT Southwestern, apparently I've been put on a "Hold list" while they review the rest of the applications. Really unhappy as I made the priority deadline and everything. And on top of that, they're reducing the class size from 67 to 60 this year. I need one of those gigantic cookies you make in a pie pan. :C
-
Sigh of relief. I called UTSW and they're still reviewing files and offering interviews. Fingers crossed that I will hear from them sometime in the next couple weeks!
-
Thanks, and good luck at your interview!

I'm working in a professor's lab right now and writing a thesis-style paper for an undergraduate research program I'm in. I haven't published anything, unfortunately. I'm graduating in three years, so this is the first year I've actually had room in my schedule for research hours. It's kind of scary seeing the people with two and three years working in multiple labs. UTSW is the best program I'm applying to, since I'm limited to the north Texas area due to family issues.
-
Damn. I hope I wasn't too late. My overall GPA is nowhere near as high as most people on here, but I did really well on my GRE and my major GPA is respectable. I'm not sure if they will take that into account, though.
-
Awww man! :C When did you send in your application?
-
You are so lucky! Are they your first choice? Have you posted your stats?
-
There's only one other person on here who's posted that they got an interview at UTSW... I can't recall the name, but it was all the way back on December 17 :C The interview dates they posted were next weekend and in March. I was told that last year UT Southwestern got 1200 applications, interviewed 200, and the entering class was a whopping 62 students. I know my odds aren't good, but I just want to hear SOMETHING.
-
Has anyone heard from UT Southwestern? I submitted my application for Division of Basic Sciences PhD right before the priority deadline (Dec 15) and I have not heard a peep. It's my dream program and I'm kind of freaking out just a little.

Undergrad Institution: Texas A&M Major(s): Biology Minor(s): N/A GPA in Major: 3.7 Overall GPA: 3.33 Position in Class: No idea. Type of Student: Female domestic GRE Scores (revised/old version): Q: 161 V: 169 W: 4.0 B: Research Experience: Working 15+ hours a week for biology elective credit right now in my old microbiology professor's lab. Awards/Honors/Recognitions: I'm in a program where we write a thesis-style paper over a year-long independent research project. Other than that, nada. Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Member of the school's microbiology society Any Miscellaneous Accomplishments that Might Help: Not a one. Special Bonus Points: My fiance's mom knows someone who knows a lot of people on the admissions committee. Not sure if that will help. My letters of recommendation are also pretty awesome. I work my butt off in lab and in class and they reflect that. Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: Nothing I can think of.
