  1. I've been trying to think of something worthwhile to add to this discussion, but all I want to say in response to Anon 314 is: Me too...
  2. You should call IIE, in my opinion, and ask about your application. If there was a mistake, regardless of whether it can be fixed now, IIE should be aware so it doesn't happen to someone else in the future. Plus, if there wasn't a mistake, I'm sure it would give you peace of mind to know that your application at least made it to the UK committee and was considered. Just my perspective, its up to you of course and I don't want to intrude- but it seems like you have a legitimate concern to raise given that no one else in the forum has mentioned being in a similar situation.
  3. CIES is the Council for International Exchange for Scholars within the Institute of International Education (IIE) in the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs (ECA) at the State Department. CIES only administers the Scholars program, but I think it is a safe bet to assume if they've put the Scholars program on hold they've also put the Students program on hold as well. As someone mentioned earlier, Fulbright said on its Facebook that the sequester wouldn't have a major effect on the program, but I think your concern is well placed- losing one grant for a large program is not so significant, but losing one grant for a country with only 5 grants to begin with is more serious.
  4. Ha. But actually, in all seriousness, I'd be curious to know what everyone's contingency plans are... anyone have good recommendations? I know some people are actually employed, but at least for those of us who are graduating senior/unemployed I'd be curious what everyone is going to try for as a back-up option?
  5. It wouldn't surprise me if this were the case for all of us...
  6. I'm abroad now, and I can't decide if it is better or worse to be in my situation... 11.5 hours ahead. I guess I get to sleep through the worried email-checking phase and am primarily only awake during a time I know I won't be receiving any emails from anyone in the States.
  7. Am hoping maybe our first Fulbrighters got this information in their acceptance emails, or perhaps others know the answer... generally, how much time is given between hearing that you've received an award and the deadline to formally commit to accept/decline the award? Is it a very fast turnaround or are we given some time to consider it?
  8. Recommended for a full grant to Malaysia!
  9. Hi All, Quick question. I'm leaving to go abroad Saturday, and am worried about preparing anything needed if I am awarded recommended status. I'm applying for Malaysia (full grant). Does anyone know if all countries require you to mail transcripts, and, if so, whether they need just you main university transcripts or also ones for study abroad or short courses? Any advice on this? I hear the vast majority of countries don't do interviews, so I'm assuming I won't have to worry about that. Thanks!
