  1. Same for me. I said I want to, but now that I got a Ph.D. offer and my (planned) funding source is not going to fund me, I will definitely not enroll in their M.A.

So the question is: Did anyone say he wants to be considered for the M.A. but already receive the rejection for the Ph.D.? As far as I remember they say on their website that admissions for the M.A. are rolling and that it takes longer for those than for the Ph.D.

I never recieved a rejection from the PhD program but got the MA. I just double checked my application and there was no slot to ask to be considered for the MA. Its very odd how they did this. Especially without a better explanation on the letter.

On a differnt note, being in MSU and UNC limbo is driving me crazy. Would be happy to get some positive news before the end of the day. I'd settle for positive news by the end of the week though.

  2. I see..

I just got only one provisional acceptance of 6 application.

It is from SUNY Binghamton but there is something weird in mail..I applied PhD program but it is written in the mail "MA program offers you....."

Is it meaningful or just a typing error?

I dont think it is a mistake. I got the same letter from Binghamton last week saying I got into the MA program. I called/emailed and after a long waiting period they told me that they I was accepted to the MA program not the Phd program. I would still call and confirm it though if I were you.

  3. They stated they would contact everyone by the end of the month, so a lot of people were probably notified of status today. If you don't want to wait until (possibly) Thursday, contact the graduate program assistant Karen Battin. Her information on this page: http://polisci.msu.edu/index.php/phd-program/application-process

Also important to note: my rejection notice came from her, and I have contacted her in the past regarding applications. She is the most likely contact to obtain your application status.

Congrats to all those admitted to MSU!

Thanks for the insight. I think I can wait unti Thursday to get the final word.

  4. So it would seem that Michigan State has sent out a series of acceptances and rejections, but I have not received any news yet. Not sure where I stand there. Does anyone have any insight onto how they conduct their admission process. Do they conduct their admissions in waves? Wondering if I have any reason to think theres still a chance. Any ideas?

  5. What schools do you guys think we'll get this coming week? I'm thinking Indiana-Bloomington, Princeton and Yale.

According to last years results Michigan State was supposed to be much earlier in the process and SUNY Binghampton was supposed to send out results last week. I would not be suprised if either of them started next week. Obviously these are the two I am still waiting on. Well that and UNC but I have no idea what they are doing.

  6. It's depressingly immature and nasty.  The vitriol makes it almost unusable as a source for reliable information, but also really turns me off to the profession as a whole.  I hope to god that it's just an echo chamber for seriously insecure academics and trolls; otherwise, it's a sad commentary on the immaturity of PS academics.

I am glad you all have brought this up because I was thinking the same thing the other day when I checked it. I rarely go to that website and for good reason. I feel this is a far more constructive and helpful place to get info.

  7. Thanks!  It was a phone call from the Director of Graduate Admissions.  Official offers going out in a couple of days.  Fully funded for 5yrs.  I'm going out to celebrate tonight.  I hope everyone gets great news soon!

Well than I guess I should be hoping for a phone call before the end of the day.... Minnesota was one of my top choices.

  8. In the hopes of having some interesting news on this very boring day at work, I'd like to know if anyone else is applying to Pittsburgh and/or has any info about decisions there? All of the other schools I've applied to don't usually notify for weeks, so I'm currently obsessing over this Pittsburgh notification.

I applied to Pittsburgh, but I have not heard anything from them yet. I checked back to last year and I think they got around to sending acceptances early February.

  9. I'm expecting most of mine to come around the second week of February, but it looks like a few of my schools may start contacting around the 1st or even the week prior.

That is what I was thinking as well. Originally I thought I would have to wait until March to start hearing back, but I have heard back from one already. I have heard similar things about programs getting back sometime soon/around February.
