FSU and SUNY Stony Brook are about the same when it comes to the US News rankings. FSU has a better placement record according to Schmidt and Chingos and the NRC rankings. The question comes down to fit between the two. FSU is better in IR. Stony Brook has a slight edge in policy. Both are about the same in policy and comparative. Both schools have strong experimental departments. FSU probably has the edge with the experimentalists in their econ department, but Stony Brook is adding some strong experimentalists this year. Both departments have traded faculty as well. FSU hired John Scholz from SUNY Stony Brook about ten years ago. SUNY Stony Brook just hired Jason Barabas and Jenn Jerit away from FSU. If you are in IR, I would recommend FSU. They have WIll Moore and Dale Smith. Stony Brook probably has a slight edge in Comparative. About the same for American. About the same for policy, but if you can work with Scholz, I would recommend FSU. His placement record is very strong.
