From everyone i've talked to in programs, jobs just aren't falling into your laps like program recruiters are saying. Just like every other field, you have to seek them out, network, get your name out there. I don't think the market is as rosy for fresh MS and MPH graduates either because their old jobs are being taken by freshly graduated PhDs. Though if you believe that the healthcare industry is going to explode in the next few years because of retiring boomers, then maybe the market will expand!

Bound to happen... good job prospects (in academia as well as industry), good pay, not much barrier of entry in form of prereqs and overall interesting area.
Yeah, but the flood of new graduates will kill the good pay and prospects. Better get that industry experience and faculty spots soon!

Whatever you do don't wait another year to apply. From the department people i've talked to this year was by far the most competitive, even for masters programs, and it's only going to get more competitive next year!

Looks like Columbia just sent out acceptances? This is looking really bad for me.
So does Columbia decide from all their apps at once or do they review the ones that came in first?
-
Mine was early Jan. Possible they haven't gotten around to making decisions on everyone yet or am I just being too optimistic?

Got into Columbia just now for Biostatistics MS. No mention of funding, but that's not really surprising to me. Pretty excited though, it's my first admission ! (:
They sent out acceptances today? When did you apply for the record?
Haven't gotten anything. Doesn't look good

Out of curiosity, what was your undergrad GPA, the ranking of your undergrad university, and your GRE scores?
-
Application rates must have just exploded this year! Probably will trickle down to masters admissions as well. Looks like the big secret is out.

Wow. Are these applicants domestic or international? Or has there just been some kind of explosion this year in applicants? I can't believe someone with a 4.0 and perfect Q score got rejected!
-
Don't worry, you'll be fine. I wouldn't be surprised if you got into all the places you applied.
Wow really? Given all the survey results showing folks with 169 Q scores and top GPAs made me think competition was extremely tight this year.

I think you should be OK, especially only having applied for Masters.
I'm worried I didn't apply to any safeties though but I really want to get in one of UW/Mich/Columbia/Berkeley/UNC

Are they not going to inform us via the website? If we haven't heard, does that mean we didn't get in?
