How good is funding at Austin, what's the average stipend?

I got my Austin acceptance, sub-field Arabic-lit. Quite a relief I must say.

Ive also been in contact with Mr. Justh at Austin, he said they were sending things out starting Monday the 18th. I assume they will be staggering acceptances throughout the week.

Does anybody know what is going on at Chicago with regard to Islamic studies? Is it bad form to check in with your POI to see what's going on?

Emailed a bunch of progrmas today because I found out my email is rejecting all incoming mail. Finished my Master's at the American University of Beirut, tried to get my AUB email forwarded to my gmail account; however, though "American" is in the name, AUB functions like any other goddamn Lebanese institution. Heard from UT Austin that they are sending out responses starting Fed 18th. I also am curious about the Chicago admission, I did my undergraduate in NELC there so it's my top choice. Hope whoever was admitted isn't doing Arabic lit or Isma'ili studies, but if you are congratulations. Applied to Princeton, but I'm in Beirut and told them I can't make visitation week, so I don't know if they'll contact me for an interview. Does anyone know if they accept without interviews?

So this year is my first go at PhD applications. I was going to apply last year but a lot of the departments I contacted (I do history/lit/regional studies) asked that I put it off a year as there was a rash of retirements of professors that would have supported my application. This time around everyone was happy to hear from me and that I was applying. However, the reactions I got ran the gambit from "Yea sure, go ahead and apply, you might fit" to one professor promising he'd support my application during the review process, he even edited 3 drafts of my SOP. What kind of reactions has everyone else gotten? I feel like as safe/threatened as any response might be, you just can't predict what the committee is going to do.
