Depends on your program officer for DEB...Just talked with John Shchade and he said it would be a week or two. Some ecol. awards have already gone out. My labmate just got one. So, some of us still have another anxious week or two before we are rejected. YAY!

Yeah! Speaking of final reports, is there a source for completed examples of one of these? The Japan kids are discussing this on our facebook group but no one seems to be confident in what a final report is supposed to "look like" in terms of formatting etc...

Ah, well that was a good time people. Looking forward to seeing some of you again in Japan. I sort of wish the NSF would host some sort of poster conference or something for all the EAPSI fellows after this is over so we can get an idea of what we all accomplished.

Same here! I get in around 2:30 and plan to go on a walkabout (my first time in the capital) to see the sights. I would love to meet up with some fellow EAPSI fellowship fellows later on in the evening!

@samtheman I hear you. I have a nice internship with CA-CP lined up but will have to reject or accept it before the DC trip is confirmed. I will no doubt wait until the last minute to make up my mind on whether EAPSI is worth the risk, but the sequester is unlikely to affect EAPSI this year, so we are probably going to be fine at this point. Most likely. Maybe. (sigh)

I will be arriving around 3:00 on the 1st. Definitely interested in dinner and drinks! Do you know if we can ditch our bags at the hotel before check-in? i would like to hit up some tourist sights before dinner. Never been to DC before.

Hm. No email yet for me about DC. Guess I will call Carter.

Yes, I too am starting to get very anxious about the DC orientation. It is coming up very soon, and no information about flights, hotels, or anything......I am basically still waiting for them to tell me that they changed their minds......

@Counting Seeds: Thanks! I was pretty bummed because I had spent so much time working up my proposal with my potential host, but am thrilled that I got the "2nd round draft." I spent a couple months in Japan on vacation a few years ago, but am very curious about the research environment. I know a lot of aspects of daily life can be more 'formal' there than we are used to in the states. I know that my standard research attire in my lab here is old t-shirt and pants and flip-flops. I doubt that is going to cut it in Japan, but any advice you might have about mentor/student relationships in japan or about research there in general would be greatly appreciated. I sure am looking forward to getting some Yoshinoya gyudon back in my belly!! @Pauli Thanks for the informative post about 'tentative' offers!

Anyone here participated in Japan previously? I just got my offer. If accepted, I will be working at the National institute for agro-environmental sciences (NIAES) and I am looking for any advice from previous fellows that have had experience either in Japan, or specifically with NIAES. Thanks!!

Just heard back from Carter at NSF about the Japan offers. He said that I may still get an offer "if someone else is unable to accept." This implies that all Japan offers have gone out. Guess I will just wait for the reviewer feedback and try again next year. Congrats again to those who got one, and good luck to all the 'other countries' out there!

Haven't seen mine yet. Probably a bad sign. Congrats to those who did!

In the past, tentative offers for Japan seem to have gone out first. If the applicant above received word that those for China were going out in early march, perhaps the schedule hasn't been set back much due to the deadline extension. I am getting pretty nervous just waiting around now. I applied for Japan. I am sure glad I am not the only one just sitting around in anticipation Good luck to everyone!

Anyone know when they are going to start sending out tentative acceptance/ rejection notices? I heard through the grapevine that it is this month (Feb). Any previous fellows out there that can share how long it took to get their award notifications?
