Until I actually got into my first school, I didn't entirely think about the money. I just kind of a faith, and nothing felt real anyway. Which was dumb. Really, really dumb.
When I was accepted into BU, I wasn't offered anything other than the maximum loan amount (which didn't even cover tuition). Before I was accepted into UCLA, I weighed the costs of having a car in LA vs. heating bills in Boston, opportunity to hold a part-time job, etc and it really came down to tuition. I figured that after I get out of a MSW program, I'll only be making $2,000 to $7,000 more than I do now (and I live pay check to pay check with Los Angeles cost of living being so high). That's not a huge pay bump. Even though BU had a great program that was a little more appropriate for what I want to do, the extra $20,000 I'd be spending for the education was just not worth it. Especially so when I put it into the context of working an additional 10 years to pay it off while still living the lifestyle I do now.
That said, even though I'd be saving $10,000ish if I went to CSUN (rent's cheaper around there, tuition is less, etc), it's worth it to me to go to a US New and Reports top 20 school.
At the end of the day, it's all very depressing and discouraging. Hopefully, it'll be worth it in the end.

I just got my acceptance letter from UCLA! Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited. It was my number one choice.

I found out on Thursday that I was accepted by UCLA. Since I already live in LA and the program is $20,000 less, I opted to go to UCLA over BU. It was a hard decision, but I know it was the right one in the end.
Have fun everyone who is going to BU!

Did you just get it in on that date? Or beforehand?
I actually got it in an hour after the 5pm deadline on the 15th, but successfully appealed to be considered early because the 5pm deadline was so buried.

I got in!
I submitted my application for the two-year Charles River Campus MSW on January 15th (the priority deadline). They apparently are not considering any applications submitted after that date until March 1st.

Crazy timing since I must have posted my reply on this thread five minutes prior BUT I just received a voicemail from the associate dean of BU's SSW!!! He said he had very good news and I should call him on Monday!!! I can't believe I missed the call but so excited and I'm hoping that on Monday he's not like, "great news!...we received your application materials!" haha!
I hope you guys hear back soon too! So surprised and unexpected on a Saturday though I wonder if due to the storm the admissions staff must have brought some work home with them??
I'm thinking the same- even if an assistantship would probably make school/life balance difficult I think it would be worth it and I'd probably thank myself years after when I'm paying off the rest of the loans. BU is pretty high on my list because they have a really good combined MSW/MPH program.
I got the same voice message. I lasted almost an entire day before I started searching the interwebs for other people who got a call. I missed it too -- my phone didn't even register a missed call. Strangeness.
"Great news.... you spelled your name correctly, and since I am leaving this message, clearly got your phone number correctly inputted as well!"

I'm in the same boat. I want to know about my financial aid package. It's definitely frustrating. I have the letter in a frame already, so they have no choice but to let me in come September!!
