  1. Hey everyone!

I am in panic! I did not receive any news from my uni (uottawa) but checking on the sshrc website I can now ask for a scholarship supplement (the Michael smith something). It was not here yesterday (yeah I checked...). Could that mean anything??? any previous experience I will call my deparment.

Bloody SSHRC giving the results a friday. It looks like they want to torture us until the end...

  2. I don't understand the SSHRC. It's not the first year that they are giving awards... They could at least give us a precise date... And what is this message on twitter (using twitter but sending papers...) "end of April" and watch your mailbox... For Vanier there a date given but not for this one... very weird and unprofessionnal... Maybe they are waiting for the Vanier people to accept or refuse their award to redistribute the sshrc awards these people may have won as well...

  3. "On track for end of April" means that if all goes as planned, that's when the letters will start being mailed. In other words, you should watch your mailbox around that time, once results are released (hopefully sometime next week).

On the other hand, maybe they meant that we should receive the letters by then (as opposed to them mailing the letters at the end of the month), so really, "on track for end of April" is a rather ambiguous statement that would require clarification. :)

Furthermore... Oh whatever, we'll just have to wait.

I guess it depends if you are optimistic or pessimistic!! :)

  4. SSHRC letters have not been sent yet. SSHRC's twitter account says that the letters will be mailed in late April.

sshrc said : Doctoral results on track for end of April, Master’s mid-May. Applicants will be notified by mail. Watch your mailbox!

In my opinion results have been send otherwise why should I watch my mailbox?

  5. The waiting is getting too long... Even the Béso scholarship is out (for the students of the university of Ottawa at least). Unfortunately I was rejected for the Vanier scolarship ( I was ranked 113 on 160) and now I am more and more worried about the SSHRC scholarship... I am French and I am scared because I got most of my experience abroad Canada. I have applied as a first year phd student (I am finishing my first year) I cannot translate my marks but for the research part I included 7 conferences, 5 articles peer reviewed, 3 accepted articles (peer reviewed) and one article (no review). I was reading here that publications are not the most important part so I am starting to wonder if I did not waste my time and if I should have rather do some volunteer work (which is not seen as an amazing thing in France compare to Canada... For instance being in a french student union is not good at all for us because it means you might annoy the administration... France and strikes...)

  6. Hello,

Does anyone knows the scale for the evaluation of the different categories of the Vanier Scholarship (research potential, etc.). I mean is it on 10? 20? or something else. I am a bit surprised by my scores. Because if it's on 10 I guess I need to get something like a nobel price to get close to it...

  7. Last year the results were issued on the 30th of March. On Recherche.net it says it s on the 29th of March this year. I hope I am not wrong... I would be surprise if it s May because the Scholarship is supposed to start in May (I mean for those who choose this date). And usually the race for scholarships is done in May... For the ratio there is nothing official and I talked about a global ratio not a uni one (as far as I know I uni can get no vanier one year and then the next year have all its candidates to have it)
