  1. Thanks natapumpkin, that's very helpful! I'm trying to decide between UNC Greensboro and DePaul. Both would suit me really well, but each have their pros and cons. Sijae- I know exactly what you mean. Traditional programs are too constraining and thus don't suit my needs and interests.
  2. ZacharyBinks- Most people say that. This is due to the fact that WGS programs (grad programs esp.) are fairly recent and have been made up of profs in various departments (sociology, poly sci, english, philosophy, etc...). However, apparently there is a shift occuring where WGS departments are hiring more people with WGS PhDs. Regardless, it's what I love and I can't imagine I could commit to another discipline enough to earn my doctorate in it. natapumpkin- They haven't informed anyone yet; all letters are going out this week. The people I've talked to in the program have been very rude on hte phone though, so I'm totally turned off to the program haha. I've been accepted to programs that are better fits anyway. Now on to my question. Is there any way to find out the reputation of various MA programs? Now that I've been accepted to more than one program, I'm trying to decide which is the best fit for me and what will get me into a tpp PhD program later.
  3. I considered it, as my BS is in Sociology/Social Stratification, but no. It looks like a good program, though.
  4. Sijae, Congratulations! Wmnshlthsoc- I was rejected from Rutgers last night, so it's quite possible that you were accepted! Oh well, I've been accepted into a good MA program with a possible teaching assistantship, and am waiting to hear from two more MA programs. When I try for Emory, Maryland (again), and Rutgers (again) in 2 years, hopefully I'll have a more impressive CV.
  5. Same here. I'm disappointed, but not devastated. I'll try again after I get my MA if I don't get into Rutgers (doubt it).
  6. I'm having the same issue. I'm really anxious to check it, although I highly doubt I was accepted.
  7. I got my letter of acceptance to UNC Greensboro tonight! I can breathe a slight sigh of relief. Even if the other four are rejections, I'll still be able to prove myself more in a MA program and try again in two years.
  8. Yes, I did briefly address this in my statement of purpose. I'm just not sure how much it's going to count against me. It would be just awful if something like this ruined my chances. Haha thank you! I thought that after I finished my applications I would feel a bit of relief but it's all stress eating, sleepless nights, and valium refills.
  9. Hey, another WGS PhD hopeful here. I applied to five programs and I'm slowly losing my mind waiting for decisions. I applied to PhD programs at Rutgers and UMD, and MA programs at UW Madison, DePaul, and UNCG. I feel like I have a really good application, apart from my bad gpa for my first two years at undergrad. Well, it's not really bad....just average. But this was due to a serious medical condition that I struggled with during those two years. I'm terrified that it will keep me out of grad school even though everything else is exceptional.
