  1. Thanks! I hear via email
  2. After all this waiting, I finally got in!! I'm so happy! MFA here I come! Good luck to those of you still waiting!
  3. As long as you haven't received the official no, that means the school is keeping you as an alternate to students that are still undecided I would assume. I'm in the same boat, still on the waiting list, but I have been told there are still some things moving in the selection process. So lets keep our fingers cross.
  4. I think that as long as you haven't received the official no, there is still a possibility. In my case I was told that the students who haven't replied yet have asked for an extension. Maybe it's the same thing happening for Yale.
  5. It's so quiet these days on the forum, especially compared to the frenzie we had a few weeks ago. I guess not many of us are still waiting for answers...
  6. There seems to be a bunch more on various theme from different universities too. Has anyone seen and recommends some other good one to look at in the topic of arts and architecture? There are so many to choose from.
  7. Congrats!!
  8. No, it's for Concordia. I called after the April 15 deadline to get an idea of what was going on. You're right. Sometimes it's hard to see the positive in all this with the stress that has built up during these past months. Thanks!
  9. I learned that most 1st round of applicants have accepted their offer in the program I'm waitlisted for, and the two that haven't yet have asked for an extension... I feel my chances slipping away and it's very depressing... Yet I can't help felling a little bit of hope bubbling up, that I know will get crushed once I have the final answer after even mooore waiting...
  10. I know how you feel. The more time passes, the more I think I wont get off the waiting list... I'm trying to grab on to the little hope left, but I wish I had my answer at this point (and a positive one if possible!) Jwu, thank you to you and to eveyone as well. It's true that it's great to have people who are going through the same thing to share with.
  11. I would say go where you really want to go. 5k is not a loan that you will drag all your life. Plus you can probably find loans that you can apply along the way to cover the rest of your expenses, or even ask the school for some more funding right now. Or looking at it from another angle, what would you regret the most? Not going to Berkeley because you had a little bit more money elsewhere, or will you regret having more debts after your studies? If you were looking at 30 or 60k debts versus a full ride elsewhere, it would be a different story.
  12. I just realized... tomorrow is April 15th! I'll be looking at my email non-stop this week...
  13. How about the option of accepting one offer (since you don't seem to want to stay in your current job) You can judge once you are there if you really love it or not. And nothing stops you from applying again next year for a program change or to a new school and transfer.
  14. Csts, did they give you a waiting list order number or not?
  15. Sculpture. But each department have their own dates I think. I was told to expect something by mid-may. Here in Canada we don't have the standard of April 15 as a date like in the US, it seems to be a free for all sometimes for the dates :/ But if you were told that the result date was April 1st, then you might get an answer soon depending if the comitee needs to meet again or not. I hope you get it! Photography has interesting facilities and the Hexagram research center that grad students can use. Good luck!
  16. It seems to be the exception, not the rule. Most people on this forum are applying to many schools. It's a gamble, because if you're not chosen, you have to wait a year. But this is where I want to go (and where I can go, because some places are just financially impossible for me) so elsewhere would be a second choice anyway.
  17. I couldn't find the original article quickly on the web to re-read it, but I think that this article is getting old and with the financial situation being what it is, companies are not willing to take risks with a creative MFA graduate. I believe however that MFAs could be the new entrepreneurs, business creators and self-employed. To learn how to be a professional artist is very close to running your own business in some ways. To make it in the art world you need to be hardworking, to have discipline (still working on that one...), to network, to make your own promotion, etc. Of all the jobs posting I've seen in the business world not directly linked to the arts, I have yet to see "MFA diploma an asset"...
  18. Or people who only applied to one school that's their top choice (which is my case )
  19. I would say don't hold your breath before April 15. Some schools wait for all the answers, then review how many and who they will take off the waiting list to complete the group. And if you're not in that second row, you could still be chosen if the waitlisters say no after their 2-3 weeks to reply. etc, etc. You can see how this can go on for a while... I was told to expect something more around mid-may for the university I'm waitlisted (Concordia in Montreal)
  20. 15k to 25k maximum. Especially since it's on top of undergrad loans.
  21. Have you visited both schools? I find that it is the best way to really feel the place, see if you fit there. It's really worth the trouble and the traveling cost. I visited quite a few universities. The best, if you can, is to get in touch with the director of your program. Have a tour of the place and the studios, meet with students, sit in a class if you can. One day there will really give you a good idea. So far people have been really kind and helpful everytime I visited a place (I even couchsurfed at some students' appartment on one visit). If you have visited both places and you really don't know yet, maybe look at what opportunities each school can give you (contact, exhibition opportunities, the art community around the university) Hope some of this can help a bit.
  22. August?? That's almost insulting. 'Hey pack your bags, you're starting school in a week and have fun finding an appartment'?? It doesn't help that school to get very qualified students either. Who can say yes to such an offer except someone that has been refused everywhere else and has no other options (Or someone who has applied only to one place) edit: However I don't mean that someone who gets refusals is necessarily unqualified, the selection process can be very subjective and unfair to extremely talented artists.
  23. Look at who sent you the letter informing you that you were on the waiting list. That is usually a good place to start. Unless you know the person that specifically takes care of the MFA applications in that school. I'm guessing the director of the program could be a third option.
  24. Thank you! I'm not waiting for that particular school, but I do know how agonizing the waitlist game can be. I hope most applicants are as considerate as you.
