  1. To be completely honest I have no idea, I looked around trying to determine what % of applications get waitlisted as well as what % of waitlisted applications get of the list, however I had no luck finding that information for Columbia. However, I would assume a very small number gets waitlisted, and a fairly small number of those get off the waitlist.

    Makes sense.

  2. Same here, when I first read it I was like "oh, ok", but after seeing the post above and reading it again, I agree it was quite rude. However, at the same time, it was a statement of fact, a lot will get in, but a lot will get rejected (and of course some will get listed, which imo is just a nice way of saying you are rejected since the probability of getting of the wait list is so damn low).

Are there any numbers for how many get waitlisted typically and how many get admitted from waitlist?

  3. This is true as well. Like I said, if you have a job lined up SIPA will be great as long as you don't mind the likely six figure investment. If you already have a job lined up, I don't see why you would go to a school that gives you financial aid unless you really love SIPA.

I don't quite understand this - you don't understand why you would go to a school that gives financial aid IF you really love SIPA?

  4. Since GU uploaded their MSFS results for some but did not send emails for some reason I decided to check my SIPA application.

What I saw almost gave me a heart attack.

At the beginning I thought I did not even apply because my application wasn't submitted for some reason. Then I realized it was just them getting ready to upload the decisions. Hopefully we'll hear something tonight. If not then Monday it is. I'd personally like to use the weekend to make a decision. If SIPA gives me no financial aid it's going to be between SFS and ESIA.

    Same message for me too.

  5. This is 100% right. It's the reason I did not apply to SIPA even though it was on my list. I talked to several alums as well as people in industries of my interest, and they all said similar things about SIPA and told me to not go there. They said great things about SAIS and HKS however.

The PRIMARY point of any professional program is to get the job you want coming out. If you fail to do that, you have wasted your time and money. The classes are of secondary importance.

It might be the primary point for some, but not for all candidates. Many candidates will have their exit opportunities lined up before they join the program - the purpose is professional development or intellectual interest...or other!

  6. Re-opening this topic... was anyone else recently admitted to the LSE MPA program?  What other programs are you waiting to hear back from and what are you major considerations?

I`m waiting to hear back from the Washington DC based International Relations MA programs.  I am looking to specialize in International Development.  The DC schools seem to have more classes available across a variety of topics compared to LSE.  I think London is a really cool city, probably more interesting than DC.  I am open to pursuing my career abroad or in Washington DC.

I came across the following blog post from a recent LSE student.  A lot of negatives within.  She chose to go to SIPA for her second year.  I would probably stay both years at LSE.

Admitted - waiting to hear back from SIPA and wait-listed for HKS.

    Big considerations for me are:

    1. Regional focus - which part of the world do I want my career to be in and how will schools influence my ability to do this?

    2. Theoretical vs applied: LSE at the theoretical end of the spectrum and SIPA at the more applied

    3. Where do I want to live: NY or London? It's two years - likely not to stay there afterwards so want to make the most of the time!

Not sure where I fall on these questions - will need to work it out if I have choices to make.

Anyone heard from SIPA yet this year?
