Hi all- I'm throwing the Fall decision on the back-burner until I hear back from programs about funding. So, my next quandary is about this Summer. I seek to specialize in Beat literature, so I figured a month at Naropa Univerisity would be pretty awesome. But, I wanted to ask you all: Any ideas as to which schools have interesting Summer programs? (UC Irvine has a great one, but their registration just closed out on 3/13, so do mind the date when you make suggestions.) Bring it on! Forever thankful- CabinFever

Ps. I am VERY much a motivated person who wants to teach. No, a community college is not going to cut it for me. Yes, I plan to jump into doctoral studies as soon as I have an MA under my belt. No, I don't need a top 5, but yes, I would like a school with somewhat of a good reputation. And why would I spend tons of money and energy on applying if I wasn't doing my research. Geez.

asleepawake, I really appreciate it. I'm not happy about this trolling accusation, but whatever - posters like you make it worth it to post at all. Sending you a private message with further questions...I really though it said per semester, but now I'm going to go home and check. To all of you, thanks so much for replying! You've really helped me think about some important factors... planesandtrains - please be nicer in your posts. I'm a person with feelings.

WORD! It's making me very nervous non-stop that I have to wait for them, keeping other schools on hold. Annoying.

What about a Writing major? They do that at my school. -

DataTape, how good is GSU in English? I also got into fAU an UCF in Fla, and I wonder who'd be best reputation-wise (for literature). Thanks. -

Hey there, go on their site. They posted decisions there. I haven't gotten an official letter yet, and FYI: they're taking FOREVER on deciding about funding. Very frustrating. Good luck. -
Hi there. First time applying to graduate school, and while I have done ample research and have frequent meetings with my mentor and recommenders, I would love to hear what you have to say I got into University of Central Florida (UCF), Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Georgia State University (GSU), and University of Houston (which has no chance for funding, so it's a for sure "no"). FAU offered me a sick deal: 80% tuition waver + 12,000 per semester. I'm waiting to hear from UCF and GSU about GTA offers (::fingers and toes crossed:. (FYI: Still waiting on Alabama University (who offers assistantships to all accepted students), and San Francisco State University (again ::fingers and toes crossed: I want to know your opinions about these programs. I am pursuing an MA in English Literature. THANKS! And I hope you have such awful decisions to make -CabinFever

University of Florida - WHAT IS THEIR DEAL!?!
CabinFever replied to CabinFever's topic in Waiting it Out
Here's the deal (and I'm a 26-year Floridian, so you can trust me :-) ): FSU is a GREAT school, but you can safely assume that UF has them beat in every field besides maybe film and performing arts. Otherwise, UF is the better pick...it's the best school in Fla. FSU is a great institution, though. Congratulations, Francophile1!!! -

Gooooood luck, Francophile. I gave up and called and got a quasi-kind, "Unfortunately, darhlin'..." Blech. -
I study English Literature, so I applied to MA and MA/PhD programs. So far, I've been accepted to 4 MA programs. I'm seeking some advice about the various programs: 1) Florida Atlantic University with GTA (80% off tuition + $12,000 per semester) 2) University of Central Florida -- "This program will contact you soon with additional information regarding your acceptance," so fingers and toes are crossed 3) University of Houston, no opportunity for assistantships for MA students 4) University of Georgia -- website says, "Congratulations! You've been admitted," but no letter yet (which I hope includes a nice GTA offer) So, who has thoughts? Guidance? Words of encouragement swaying me towards one school and/or away from others? Any and all is welcome and appreciated. I hope you are all struggling with this same problem - admitted to a handful/bunch of school, and having trouble deciding. Thanks- CabinFever

English MA Fall 2013 here...Can someone please tell me why I haven't heard? Will I hear soon?

Florida Atlantic anyone?
CabinFever replied to beet-nik's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
First of all, beet-nik, I love your handle. So, I applied to FAU for English Lit. I'm a little worried about it. Have you found anything out? They offered me exactly what you posted above, but like I said, I'm nervous about this. Hope you heard good news! -
As I wish for most of you, I was accepted to several schools. While I'm still waiting on the stragglers, I figured I'd narrow down what I've already got. What do you know about these: Florida Atlantic University and Georgia State University? Both English Literature programs, both with GTA offers. I live in South Florida, but am very willing to move, so distance isn't an issue. Thoughts? I've exhausted my resources asking about this, so I thought maybe y'all would possibly help. I'd appreciate any words. Cheers- STS
