Hi, I am a Masters student in CS department at UIUC. I have taken Distributed Systems course in last semester. It covered all the basic theoretical concepts and also had a project in which we built a distributed in memory key value store in Java. I was wondering should i take operating systems this semester or not. I am thinking from the perspective of job. How useful is it to take operating systems now, I do not have much experience in C programming. Thanks

I have an admit from CMU MSIT eBusiness Technology program and UIUC professional MCS program - No aid from either. The program at CMU is of 1 year (3 semesters) and totally project based with minimal coursework. UIUC MCS is just like MS CS except thesis - 1.5 years. I know both programs are very different and teach altogether different things. However, still I want to compare them on following points- 1. Which program is more reputed? 2. Which has better job prospects? Better return on investments? 3. Please share your experiences of program if you happened to have studied or studying in any of them. Please provide your inputs. Thanks
