  1. I have several years of relevant hospital experience, a lot of PH related research experience, major thesis, a lot of volunteer work and over 3.4 gpa for last 2 yrs.
  2. Hey, no problem. If an employer sees that you went to an accredited program, it would tell them that you meet the standards that are necessary for you to carry out public health duties. For example that you have taken all the core competencies required to understand public health from various levels. I don't think it's a big deal in Canada but in the states, there are so many public health schools that a standard needed to be made. I want to work internationally so the ASPHER accreditation would be good for me and would tell my future employers that I meet the same standards as other MPHers (in this case, ones that earned their MPH in Europe). It just shows that we have learned the same material. So far, I think US is the only place that reserves jobs for students who went to a CEPH accredited school and I don't think all are reserved only for people who have CEPH accreditation. Ah, I don't remember. I did apply closer to the end of February and I heard back two weeks later I believe. But they do have a lot of applications (last year around 700 I believe). Just make sure you check your account frequently. If they have questions, they may write on the PAWS that you need to contact them. Good luck!!
  3. When you get into a general program, the first year you have to take the core competencies of public health. These courses focus on biostatistics, epidemiology, program planning etc and are necessary to make you completely prepared for your practicum. The programs that have these are mainly accredited (such as the MPH at USASk which just recently got ASPHER accreditation), but I believe most programs have this requirement. Then, in your second year, you get to choose which courses you want to take. If you end up liking more epidemiology courses, then take more epidemiology courses and you can mention that you specialized in epidemiology for example. In the end, where you do your practicum is really important because employers care mainly about your experiences and how you've been able to apply the knowledge you've learned in public health. If you want to get into global health, then going to do a practicum at WHO would be essential for example. I am currently a first year MPH student at uSask originally form Ontario and I am enjoying the program so far.
  4. Anyone going to USask For MPH, here is a link to the FB group if you're interested in joining https://www.facebook.com/groups/524109564314804/
  5. Okay, I will work on it today and post the link on here! I hope I applied to the right residence. I want to live in the Grad house. When I started the application. I got 5 options: Grad house, 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom etc. I clicked on grad house but I think that also includes the three residences (Mceown Park, Voyageur and Grad house). I do not want to live in Mceown :S. I also got matched with potential roommates. Did you experience the same when applying for res? Which one did you apply to?
  6. To everyone who got accepted to USask. Would you be interested in joining a FB group for USask MPH? I could definitely make one. Also, have you all applied to residence yet? Do you know when we hear back about where we will be living?
  7. I'm still waiting to hear back even though I applied to get accepted into the Spring term.
  8. Thanks so much guelphbiomed ! I will read it. Hope you have a nice rest after your exams!
  9. Hey Guelphbiomed, what is the program accredited by? I was waitlisted. I was sure that it is not CEPH accredited but maybe I'm wrong.
  10. Thanks very much for letting me know . Guelph has some really interesting public health courses. It will be a wonderful program for you to attend. Thanks again .
  11. Hey, congrats! How did you find out you got accepted? Did you get an email? I messaged Rebecca at the Guelph MPH department to inquire about the status of my application but she just told me that letters will be sent out in the next two weeks.
  12. Thanks so much!!! I checked and still the same. Thanks again for the information and congrats! Hope you will be celebrating the good news tonight!
  13. Thanks for this information! Do you know when your friend found out?
  14. Congrats! Agh, I logged in just now and it still says that a decision has not been made.
  15. I did call a while back. They said we should know by the end of the month and if we don't find out by the end of the month, then there may be a chance that we could be on the waitlist and to call to find out if we are (in early April).
  16. Hey, I am still waiting to hear back form Waterloo. It says decision has not yet been made. I think the person you're referring to was called by a professor to let them know they got accepted. Does your status also say that no decision has been made yet?
  17. No problem. It was just a question to explain a bit about the undergrad program I just graduated from. It is a small and unique program so they just wanted to know what exactly the program entailed.
  18. Hi Dentist2013, mine was the same as yours. Decision made, and then it said contact the department. I called and they said they have not yet made a decision. Then where it says decision, it turned into "dept recommend" yesterday i believe. I do have a bit of a unique undergrad experience so they asked me a couple of questions when I called. I was surprised that they knew so much about my application but made me feel great that they thoroughly look at the applications. Keep us posted when you hear back!
  19. Hi Dentist2013, what does your application say under decision? Mine last week said to contact the department and that a decision was made. I contacted them but they said a decision had not been made. I applied at the beginning of March and now it says department recommend. Good luck to you and you should hear back soon I'm sure!
  20. Catchsameh, I am also waiting to hear back from Guelph but I don't think enough time has passed for them to have efficiently reviewed our applications. I just found out that I was department recommended for UofSaskatchewan. That was super fast. Waiting for 4 more schools. Congrats to everyone else for getting accepted.
  21. Hey Artificial_Ignorance and TR_JM, does that mean they look at the final marks from the Spring term as well?
