I have looked on campus and most of the positions are for master's level students or have been awarded for the upcoming school year. Now, I was told to wait at latest, this December for funding.

Yes this was in writing.

Before accepting admission into a phd Educational Leadership program, I was assured funding. However, now I am without funding and almost at my loan max. The chair and my advisor are now slow on communication, whereas they were emailing me within seconds initially. I am looking for outside sourcing on and off campus, but I am having no luck. I am not sure what to do. Any suggestions????

Wow! That is awesome! Thank you for sharing. I feel a lot more comfortable transitioning to a PWI. I'm open to the experience and know its needed in order for me to grow. I guess I never looked at impostor syndrome aside from minorities. And its great you guys are naturals! I'm ready for the questions that will come with that. Thank you again!

This is always awkward. How to be concise about it, I'm not sure. I can't just say "give me some money damnit!!"

Thank you! That was much needed. I'm not sure of what I'm expecting exactly. Coming from Howard (masters program), I have had a pretty diverse experience, however diverse among the majority. My undergraduate advisor (also at an hbcu) was a white man, but it didn't bother me any. I didn't look at color at all. My experiences have been for the most part black. I believe I need this experience at a larger majority institution to help me grow academically and professionally. The faculty and students in my department appear to be cool people, so I'm not concerned. I guess having access to more academic and financial resources is causing a bit of curiosity. Sometimes at an hbcu, we have to do double the steps whether its dealing with transcript requests or printing something from the library. Anyway, thank you for your insight. It was much appreciated. Oh and good luck on transitioning. I transitioned during undergrad and chopped the last inch of relaxed hair in my master's program.

Any opinions?

Any thoughts about this program?

Yes this is for a PhD program. My advisor brought up funding before I did so that's why I feel at ease about asking. But this definitely helped!! Thanks a bunch!!!

Is it more appropriate to send a cover letter? or should I send an email to possibly meet with the chair face to face. I would rather meet face to face, so how should I go about the email?

What does it truly mean to be wait-listed for a doctorate program?

This is exactly how I feel!!! Do you feel like you would settle if you chose either one of those? -

Thanks, I was placed on a waiting list for a month when I was told that I would not be extended admission. I thought I would stay on the list until at least May, because you never know who will back down. -
I was finally granted admission into a doctorate program, however I was granted an opportunity to participate in a year program sponsored by Americorps. It's a great opportunity and has decent benefits. Also, the university has not offered any funding. I know it wouldn't be wise to enter a program with intentions of 'transferring' (that word in itself sounds impossible with a phd program...who would write those L.O.R.?? ...yeah no one). This is a different ball game, from my masters. Is deferring admission almost nonexistent??
