Canadian 2014 SLP
SLPhopeful2013 replied to Sœur d'une Étoile's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Hey all, I found this thread and am trying to pay it forward. When I applied for fall 2013 entry I was talking to current students in our thread and I found it so hopeful! I am currently at UoT for my Master's in SLP (loving it)! I applied to Western and UoT and was luckily accepted into both. Good luck to all of this year's applicants. Private message me if you have any questions and I will try my best to check in every so often -

Hey all, Over the past week I have visited the programs at Western and Toronto (open house), and have accepted the offer at Toronto this evening. Hopefully something opens up for you UWO waitlisters! If anyone has any questions about my choice or program feel free to message me Good luck in your decisions! -

Hi all, I am definitely leaning towards Toronto- even after reading these posts. I have friends that did the program both at Western and Toronto. 2 of my friends at Toronto (one graduated just 2 years ago) were hired on by their external placements once they had completed the program. Just the networking that is available in the GTA is a huge factor for me! When I went to Western, I was told that there is only 2 external placements (outside of the clinic). That being said, I have heard nothing but positives about the Western program and know both schools have amazing reputations. I am sure everyone will be happy with their decisions. I thought I would share my pros list for anyone still debating. I don't like focusing on the cons.. because both schools will be great! Western PROS: in house speech and audiology clinic, smaller program/class sizes, lower cost of living, anatomy lab Toronto PROS: more external placements (i.e. social networking opportunities), separate academic and clinical blocks (not concurrent), more funding opportunities Good luck all! -

Hey LM2013, Due to funding cut backs- Western only had 1 OGS to give out. The prof was able to tell me I made it to the top 6 but wasn't successful. The successful applicant was notified on April 1st.. if they declined (which I am assuming they didn't) it would come available to someone else. Janet said most of the funding opportunities go to in course students- so hopefully you will have better luck next year Hope that clarifies! -

Hi all, I went on a tour of Western's program today (accepted to both UofT and Western) and trying to make the big decision. Thought I could clarify a few things about wait list. It is true that Western accepts more applicants than they have spots for (36) as they assume people will reject the offer. That being said, they were shocked when 37 people accepted the offer last year (no one got in from wait list). On the bright side, Toronto seems a lot more optimistic. I have a friend who got in last year off the wait list in June (she was near the bottom). So all hope is not lost. I am attending the open house at Toronto on Monday. If anyone has any questions inbox me good luck to all still waiting! -

They sent out our official acceptance/rejection/wait list packages! I was fortunate to get an acceptance, but don't give up all hope you will be notified of wait list status via slug mail! Like you said many who got multiple offers will have to accept and open up. I'm leaning towards UofT, so another spot should open up at Western soon! -

I saw an estimate around 10K as well.. I looked at something for Western and it looked about half the price? Was I looking at the wrong thing? http://www.registrar.uwo.ca/student_finances/fees_refunds/pdfs%20fee%20schedule%20/Fall%202012%20Fee%20Schedule%20Grad%20Canadian.pdf -

Hi all, Just found this chat and decided to create a profile. Congrats to everyone accepted so far! I only applied to U of T and Western because I'm hoping to stay in Ontario.. anxiously awaiting Monday. I've heard Western releases at midnight, but Toronto you have to wait for an e-mail during the day. Can anyone confirm this?
