I also applied under FON E1: Global change. Has anyone in that category received anything, one way or the other?
I applied in that category and I haven't received anything yet!
-
Same here. I accepted NSF as you can only get it early in your grad career. You can apply for the EPA STAR again later - so I figure, if I need more funding, I'll apply to EPA then - they shouldn't have taken so long.
By the way, congrats on NSF!
That's a good point. Thanks! And congrats to you, too!!

I just found out that I was selected to receive the NSF fellowship, which I'm supposed to accept or decline by May 1. I also applied for the EPA STAR fellowship. So if the results of that one won't be announced until May 30, what should I do about NSF (I know that the chances of me getting both fellowships are very very very close to zero...but I still thought I'd ask)

Oh my god! I can't believe I got it!!
Beer cracked, post-midnight celebration has commenced.
Haha, same here!! I have to be in lab by 9...I don't think I'll be able to fall asleep tonight, haha :)It's alright, though - I have enough adrenaline running through me to keep me awake for the next week!! I already called my fiance, my mom, and texted my advisor about it, haha!!!
-
I just got the e-mail, too!

Anyone who has gotten the award, post the first letter of your last name so that we can tell if the site is updating in alphabetical order or something haha.

I couldn't see the list, but when I logged into my account, I saw my official acceptance letter!!! OMG!!!!! I'm shaking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Why can't they post at a normal hour? Sheesh!! Sleep deprivation + rejection/destroyed hopes and dreams + misc. grad school angst equals sad, sad tomorrow :-(
I agree!!! They should do it during regular business hours.

Anyone want to do some last minute sucking up to the NSF with me?
God, the NSF is such an amazing institution. I just think its terrific!!
(Can I change my display name once I get my rejection?
Hahahaha! This literally made me laugh out loud!!
-
Watch as it comes back up, no list. The NSF people would be laughing at us so hard right now.
They're probably all sound asleep in their warm beds right now, laughing at us in their dreams!

I say we vow not to check it for half an hour, so as not to crash the system.
Agreed....I'm in!

(Power back on, and the House is buying pizza for all us poor folks who were mid-cooking when the power went out! Middling Desirable Scenario!)
Nice!!

202 users currently active on this thread. In 2010 there were 12,000 applicants. That is an outrageous percentage of total applicants to achieve on a message board...
EDIT: 218...
At this curve, we'll bring GradCafe to its knees, and then who will we wait in eager anticipation with?
224!!!

Forty Thieves is my standby >> that or Baker's Dozen, but no one ever seems to make the latter for mobile OSs...
Looks like someone is coming to check the high voltage line in the building in like half an hour, at which time we will get "another update". Siiiiiigh.
Hmmm....I don't think I've ever played either one of the games! Good luck with the power - I hope it gets turned back on before your laptop dies! I should probably try to get some work done. Must....stop....refreshing....this....page.....

If it's not a campus issue, yes, luckily (: the regular bus isn't running anymore and it's raining (typical Boston), however, so that is the Least Desirable Option atm.
(Most Desirable = playing solitaire until the lights magically come back on at the exact instant I win my first hand still early in the evening and get an email ping from NSF saying that they want to give me money, thus negating the previous few hours...)
Haha, what a coincidence - that's MY "most desirable" option at the moment, as well! The only difference would be playing spider solitaire instead of the regular one
-
Yeah - I'm not too worried about not being able to check my email (though I only have ~ 4 hrs batt life remaining on that), but additional stress about all the things I still need to do tonight!
Ugh, that's not good. Can you go back to your lab/office to finish your work tonight?
-
Man, nothing to add to the anxiety like a power outage in your building of indeterminable length D| laptop only has <1hr battery life remaining!
Smart phone?

Born and raised in Russia (until I was 9). High school and undergrad in PA and now grad school in IN. This is my first and last time applying, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
-
So what do you think would be the first thing you will do if you find out that you got the fellowship?
I think I would fall onto my knees and let out a loud, long victory battle cry and scare all my labmates to death and have my advisor rushing out of her office ready to call 911.
I would probably to do the same. And then I would celebrate with my labbies by drinking...a lot...because that's something I haven't done since I started grad school!

Oh God, don't tell me this. I'm going to be tempted to start sleeping with my laptop open on my bedside table.
That's why smartphones were made

Um, I am going to go with April 6, 3:22am. I think they watch us on here and have fun.
Haha, they probably do.

I know this is totally lame so, hopefully I'm not the only one, but has anyone else tried searching by name to see if their name might just show up?
Haha, I did after reading your post
EPA STAR Fellowship 2011
in The Bank

E1 (Global Change) - received my rejection package yesterday. I am in Indiana, but my home state is Pennsylvania.
The letter was dated April 22 and had the evaluation by 3 reviewers. Overall scores were 2 "very good" and 1 "good". Two of the reviewers had mostly positive comments with some constructive criticism (I even got an "excellent" on one of the criteria). The third reviewer, however (the one who gave me an overall score of "good"), just trashed my entire proposal. I'm OK with that because it gives me a direction in which to improve my proposal and project for the future, but I was kind of upset because some of the suggestions he/she made and the things I apparently should've mentioned were actually covered in my proposal. That makes me wonder how thoroughly the reviewers read it...
It's all good, though, because I got the NSF-GRFP fellowship
Good luck everyone! I hope you guys receive that special phone call!!
