Just got waitlist for Chicago PhD in Statistics.
-
I wonder if that is a current Masters student who got internally accepted. Just a thought, being that I haven't seen anything else. I wasn't given the impression that there would be rounds of acceptances or rejections- the whole process was made to sound like it would be pretty quick. I'm in a tight spot though because they're my top choice right now, and I would like to know if they're going to just reject me. I am planning on going to UMN's accepted students weekend (for Masters), which is this weekend and would obviously not go if Hopkins accepted me. I still need to buy a plane ticket >.<
I'll be at the UMN visit day tomorrow (for PhD)

Anyone hear from JHU Stats?
Also what is Chicago up to....
-
I am from one of the universities you mentioned (only a Bachelors) and I have been accepted at Minnesota, waitlisted at CMU and have an interview at NYU Stern.
This is with a mediocre math background too.
It definitely doesn't have a bad reputation. However, I am also very interested in this question.
-
Any opinions on Stern's program? I have an interview coming up and I'm not sure how the program compares to one like Minnesota.
-
Looks like a waitlist then, either that or they are sending more rejections soon
It implies waitlist rejection and acceptances are still coming.
-
I emailed Chicago asking for my result, they said they have sent offers and rejections already. However if we still have not received a decision then it means the decision is not yet made.
-
I just got an email from Stern today. Anyone hear anything?
-
Anyone attending Minnesota's visit date?
-
Is anyone still awaiting an offer from anywhere?
Chicago, Stern, Johns Hopkins

Effhorses definitely had strong letters. Impressing the right people is a skill in itself, you can't do that by luck.
-
This will probably just be ignored again but yes, the UMich grad chair told me that they are done with acceptances.
Thanks for the update!
-
Has anyone contacted Michigan or Chicago Statistics to see if they are done their offers?
I am still waiting on both. -
Seems like they sent at least one acceptance out today, I didn't get one.
That's a bad sign LOL
-
Seems like more Michigan rejections today...
I still haven't got one. Anyone in the same boat as me still?

I get the impression that you want to be a professor so you can teach college students. Am I understanding you right?
To my understanding, it is rare to pursue a PhD in the goals of teaching. A PhD is a research degree and your primary passion and motivation in doing a PhD should be producing original research. Nothing against teaching students, but I wonder if having that as the primary motivation would be enough. In regards to your question, I think the people on these forums can give better advice if you are more specific with your background. What was your Masters in? Do you have any proof intensive courses? Maybe even check out mathematicsgre.com as they are a much more active forum.
Goodluck!

So all Harvard phd rejections should come by mail right, not email? Anyone still waiting for the postal mail? I'm fairly positive I'm rejected.
I'm also waiting for Michigan. Anyone apply to NYU Stern?
-
I logged onto the Minnesota applyyourself site and see that the status was changed to "final review." So I expect those of us who have not heard from MN yet will most likely receive rejection or waitlist e-mails this week. To anyone who is interested, I will decline Minnesota if I am waitlisted, since Florida is a comparable program and cost of living is higher in Minneapolis.
I got admitted into Minnesota and my status also just changed to Final Review.
So I would take it with a grain of salt.

Yeah the website shows nothing for me
-
I totally agree ^
Last year they were a good 3 weeks earlier...
-
How did you get confirmation of waitlist for CMU?
Email from a professor. Directed to my name. My second choice was the joint one with stats and machine learning, but the professor said I got rejected from that.
-
I just got waitlist for CMU phd in stats. My only other offer is Minnesota. Looks like I'll have to wait til April. They did promise me full funding if I'm off the waitlist.
Can anyone fill me in on the funding details? TA duties/teaching duties? Etc.
-
Congrats! Did the professor tell you via phone that you got admitted?
I also got a phone from one of the professors last Monday, but in the end he didn't say anything about acceptance.
He just told me that they will provide every admitted phd student full funding during their phd study. Sounds like a lot of money.
Wait why did the professor call you if he didnt offer you admission?
I am still waiting on Michigan..

Congrats to all who got new offers!
Any international students got offer from Minnesota?
And, anyone hear news from TAMU or Rice?
I am Canadian (not sure if that counts as international)
