  1. I wonder if that is a current Masters student who got internally accepted. Just a thought, being that I haven't seen anything else. I wasn't given the impression that there would be rounds of acceptances or rejections- the whole process was made to sound like it would be pretty quick. I'm in a tight spot though because they're my top choice right now, and I would like to know if they're going to just reject me. I am planning on going to UMN's accepted students weekend (for Masters), which is this weekend and would obviously not go if Hopkins accepted me. I still need to buy a plane ticket >.<

I'll be at the UMN visit day tomorrow (for PhD)

  2. I get the impression that you want to be a professor so you can teach college students. Am I understanding you right?

To my understanding, it is rare to pursue a PhD in the goals of teaching. A PhD is a research degree and your primary passion and motivation in doing a PhD should be producing original research. Nothing against teaching students, but I wonder if having that as the primary motivation would be enough.

In regards to your question, I think the people on these forums can give better advice if you are more specific with your background. What was your Masters in? Do you have any proof intensive courses? Maybe even check out mathematicsgre.com as they are a much more active forum.

    Goodluck!

  3. I logged onto the Minnesota applyyourself site and see that the status was changed to "final review." So I expect those of us who have not heard from MN yet will most likely receive rejection or waitlist e-mails this week. To anyone who is interested, I will decline Minnesota if I am waitlisted, since Florida is a comparable program and cost of living is higher in Minneapolis.

I got admitted into Minnesota and my status also just changed to Final Review.

So I would take it with a grain of salt.

  4. Congrats! Did the professor tell you via phone that you got admitted?

I also got a phone from one of the professors last Monday, but in the end he didn't say anything about acceptance.

He just told me that they will provide every admitted phd student full funding during their phd study. Sounds like a lot of money.

Wait why did the professor call you if he didnt offer you admission?

I am still waiting on Michigan..
