  1. Got a phone call the day after I received my rejection letter offering me a spot that opened up. Apparently, I was next in line for admission. Anyway, if you got a rejection letter, you might still hear from CSUEB. They took long enough making decisions, I'm sure there are other people that chose to go elsewhere which will allow for other people to attend. Good luck everyone!
  2. Got my rejection letter in the mail today. Had no idea there were only 80 spots--that's crazy! Anyway, I'm totally okay with it since I already accepted admission to my top choice program. Hope others have luck with this school if it was their top choice!
  3. pmelwani: Thanks for the link and info on classes. I've been looking on CL the last few weeks, but it'd be nice to find a place to share with fellow MSW students if possible. Thanks, again!
  4. Hi guys, Can anyone PM me info about classes we're supposed to sign up for? Hunter admin told me they'd email out orientation info for out-of-state students, but my registration window opened up last week, so I'd like to register a.s.a.p. Has anyone done this already? Also, if you or anyone you know are looking for a roommate, I'm looking to move by August. Budget is up to $550/mo. (with utilities). Don't mind sharing a room and would prefer to live in Brooklyn. Hope everything's moving along well for you all. Almost there!
  5. Not yet, since they seem to base field placements on where a student will be living, and I don't plan to move there until late July/early August (and probably won't find a place until July), so I don't think I can submit it yet.
  6. Yes, it seems that way; I'm out-of-state. I received my acceptance letter by mail the first week of April and I still haven't received any email with information around additional steps. So, it'll probably take a while. I still have NO idea when orientation is, if there is any alternative for out-of-state students, or anything around field placement and registration for classes.
  7. Wonder how things are working and moving along for out-of-state admitted students. No word yet on field placement/financial aid/registration or anything else, really. If anyone has more information, please share.
  8. Same as AnnaBannana. I received a confirmation email re: commitment deposit over a week ago and still can't create an account on CUNYfirst.
  9. pmelwani: I called the financial aid office and they gave it to me, but said I would have to wait to have access to my CUNYfirst account. How were you able to get access? Did you receive an email with additional steps?
  10. This is very confusing. I mailed my commitment deposit over a week ago and got an email confirmation a few days later, which is good. I have my Empl ID#, but can't yet use it to get access to my CUNY first account (which you need to get your financial aid award/loan offers). Called today and they said it takes a while to process all of that, so just have to wait it out. I still have to find immunization records and ask someone about field placement (since I don't yet know where I will live in NYC, which affects where you are placed). There's a lot to figure out and it feels like there's no direction. It's also frustrating because a lot of links and forms found on their websites are outdated.
  11. Hi NatalieM, I really struggled to make a decision, but I ultimately went with Hunter. My decision had more to do with cost, since I would have been happy to attend either program. I know NYU is more clinically focused, but a lot of clinical experience comes after MSW--plus, I hear Hunter's clinical track is also really good. I took time to find NYU and Hunter students/grads to ask around their experiences there. Each had great things to say and shared their challenges at their program as well (but I think both schools had a lot in common with regard to this. Ex. Awesome/awful teachers and discussion facilitators, professors are available). One thing that did stand out was that Hunter does a lot less "hand holding" than NYU in some areas, which appears to have a more active networking dynamic. I think this is noticeable in my experience just through email communication. NYU has sent me at least 6 emails with information/welcome messages and events/reminders and deadlines, whereas I have had to call Hunter about 5 times to figure out what the next steps are. I can deal with it, though. I'm moving to NYC and am low income, so I'm trying to accumulate as little debt as possible and choosing Hunter will help me reduce that amount significantly.
  12. Yes, I agree with saidypoo! You should definitely give admissions a call to make sure you know where your application is in the process. Good luck, everyone.
  13. Yes, that's something I've thought about, especially since I'm from CA and there'll always be a possibility of me returning. I did a bit more homework on costs/aid/loans, and as it turns out, NYU is still very much out of my price range, even with the generous scholarship they've offered me. Hunter it is, and I am more than okay with that--it was always a "win/win" decision (just a tough one to make). I'm so happy I have the option of attending Hunter; I might not otherwise be able to plan a move to NYC (somewhere I've wanted to live for a long time).
  14. Need some advice, guys! I applied to NYU and Hunter, thought NYU would be out of my price range but ended up being accepted to both programs and was offered a $12,000/year scholarship at NYU. Now it looks like the two programs are about equal in price (with Hunter's out-of-state tuition 1st year + resident tuition second year). I'm interested in becoming licensed (LCSW) after my degree, but also want to be well rounded in policy and research. NYU - Clinical focus - Has professors whose interests relate closely to my own - Is a name Hunter - Is more selective than NYU - Greater diversity/stronger social justice & anti-oppression focus - Is also very well respected in NY/tri-state area Still need to find out more info on class sizes and how available professors are at each program--that's really important, too. Any opinions or advice? I have about a week to decide and am very torn.
  15. Has anyone accepted to Hunter as an out-of-state student been offered any kind of financial aid yet? I applied to NYU and Hunter, thought NYU would be out of my price range but ended up being accepted to both programs and was offered a $12,000/year scholarship at NYU. Now it looks like the two programs are about equal in price (NYU's even a tiny bit less expensive for me). I'd love to choose Hunter, but not sure how much aid they usually offer out-of-state students.
