  1. Goodluck!
  2. I agree with you but I have to point out that a Boren fellow did receive an award to study the Spanish poetry of Borges in Argentina. She was able to demonstrate a link between poetry and politics/history. Not disagreeing with you but it does happen occasionally that seemingly trivial disciplines are chosen over very obvious ones. Depends on how creative the applicant is. good luck everyone!
  3. Your absolutely right, but unfortunately neither of those are my languages of focus.
  4. Hey alexpen, I would actually really like that info. i have to be in ba to do my thesis work regardless of whether i get the boren award or not. thanks!
  5. Thanks everyone. i really do appreciate it. i know you should never place so much importance on an unsure thing, but the boren really does feel like one of those things that can change your life in an instant.
  6. Ugh zero hope...
  7. I will be in palermo ba. yeah i know its in the spreadsheet but im double checking to verify that the fellowship budget emails went out, i am not sure that everyone who said they got a budget email really did. i think there has been some confusion bte thr budget email and the date confirmation email. also some of the folks who verified recieving a budget email (fellows not scholarship apps) are anonymous and i just want to hear from them.
  8. So how many f e l l o w s h i p. applicants have recieved a budget email (an email asking to clarify your budget, not dates)? I havent recieved one so I am pretty sure I am not getting in.
  9. well what did they want clarification on? Budget or particulars about you project?
  10. I agree. Nothing is set in stone as of yet.
  11. Hi Kaysey and other Fellowship applicants, would you mind posting the date you received the budget emails?
  12. gosh this is so exciting! I have the flu and its 7 til 12 in NYC and I can't sleep on account of the results . . . and partly because of the flu! Good luck guys!
  13. At this point no body is sure what it could mean. This whole forum is just a databank of speculation created to help allay our worries and keep us hopeful until late april/early may. Though I do agree that a "budget email" is likely a great indicator that you will receive a Boren Award or be named an alternate (as per the data and organized in cm's spreadsheets collected during the previous years). But until Boren sends out final letters nobody will know anything for sure. Just think of this as Group Therapy for Boren applicants. Like I said the application process was hell so a debriefing is all the more necessary to help us deal with the rejection that statistically is very high for each individual applicant. Funny side-note, my girlfriend kept on calling it the "Boring Fellowship" because every time I tried explaining to her what it's about she would always get bored, drift off and want to change the subject, lol.
  14. Good Job on the spreadsheet. I am glad that someone has taken the initiative. But after doing a little research it seems that some of the information posted is incorrect. Many of the commentators who have claimed to have received a budget letter for the Boren fellowship (the title of the spread sheet is indeed "Boren Results 2013-2014") are actually recipients of Fulbright, FLAS and in some instances alternates from last years Boren awards. In any case there was one person who answered "yes" to receiving a budget letter from Boren for the Fellowship award 2013-2014 year who seems to understand the purpose of the spreadsheet (no sarcasm intended). I found this information by running the usernames of the commentators through grad cafes search engine and looking through there posting history. Good luck everyone. I really wish everyone the best. This is really a once in a lifetime opportunity. Cheers
  15. Hello everyone, I applied for the fellowship to study in argentina. i received a date confirmation email a couple of weeks ago. I really would be surprised to be even named an alternate. thr director of my schools international affairs program informed me no one has ever won a boren fellowship. this thread has really helped curb my expectations and has brought me back to earth so to speak. Congrats to everyone who managed to even submit a complete application. Those letters of overseas affiliation were not easy to get for me.
