  1. Sorry to hear that! I was unsuccessful last year and it really truly cut me down a couple notches. It was my first rejection and well it really sucked. But if there is a silver lining, I can tell you that it ended up being for the better in the end. Crazy you say, I know. But because I was awarded internal funding that I was allowed to keep with my OGS but would not have been able to keep with SSHRC, I actually ended up "making" more. And I was allowed to keep two terms of teaching as well. Try not to let it be a judge of your character or academic capability. I'm absolutely positive that the same application would go through with some panels and not others or have varied success in each year. All the best.
  2. Hi All, I received an e-mail from my Grad Chair today - I was awarded with a CGS! Mail came in Kingston and no letter yet so I can't say my score. At the time of application I had: - MA OGS and additional internal scholarships - Several other undergrad awards - 85%/11.0 cumulative average from undergrad - 1 peer reviewed publication - 1 conference - 2 excellent reference letters from my undergrad thesis supervisor and the professor whose paper I had published Of my department only 3 applications went on to national competition for PhD. 2 were funded. I should also add that, from the opinion of my department, I had an extremely strong plan of study for an incoming PhD student (which made up for the small number of publications and conferences). I worked with five faculty members to edit numerous drafts over the course of September and October and both of my supervisors read every single draft (I like 11 or 12 in all). I'm not saying that 12 drafts is necessary, but I was told by my department that when you have strong grades and were previously externally funded, the plan of study really ends up counting for a lot. Anyhow, I will post my score when it comes. Congrats to all the recent winners and all my fingers and toes are crossed for those of you still having to wait. It won't be much longer!!! All the good vibes.
  3. Congrats!! That is wonderful news and it worked out perfectly for your situation! Ugh me too. I'm trying to will myself into calling. Also, my partner left for work with the mail keys which means I'll either have to stalk the post person or wait until he gets home tonight at 6pm
  4. Hah - took the words right out of my brain! Not that much longer.
  5. Thanks Numbered! Congrats on a solid profile and in receiving the scholarship! Be sure to celebrate this weekend!
  6. Good to know! Thanks Obrera!
  7. Oh I see what you are saying. I have the same thing. The start date is today under mine and it says supplemental. Any idea what that means? It also links me to here: http://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/funding-financement/programs-programmes/fellowships/cgs_foreign_study-besc_etudes_etranger-eng.aspx I also don't know if that was there before because I never did that step prior to you telling me to.
  8. I just logged into mine. I don't see anything there for me (ie. same as it was 2 hours ago) Strange. Ugh. the anxiety. All the best to everyone! Try (I know thats a silly thought) to relax over the weekend. No matter what now, what is decided is decided and we just have to ride the wave until we find out!
  9. Congratulations!!! I'm glad so many on the board are finding out from their admins! Did you call or did they call you? I am sort of just glaring at my phone now.
  10. Congratulations!! It is killing me knowing that our SGS knows but I'm probably going to have to sweat out the weekend before I find out one way or the other. Go celebrate!
  11. Mine is also showing completely empty under the SSHRC portfolio page. It has for some time (since like Feb. I think). I'm sure it won't be too much longer. Hang in there.
  12. Sorry to hear that, that really sucks! Keep your head up! Does this mean the uni's have the results? And what is the "secure" SSHRC site for the woefully uninformed?
  13. Hi All, Longtime reader, first time poster. I can confirm that there have been no SSHRC results arriving in Kingston today. My grad chair was confident that they will receive electronic communication of the results one they are mailed. I feel like we are all a bit like Pavlov's dogs - at the tiniest tinkling of a bell we all start salivating and freaking out. I've just tried to bury my head in my MA work but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't on my mind. I've reached the mindset where I know the decision is already made, and I know I did all I could do to make my app as attractive as possible, so I would just like to know the answer one way or another. I've already been awarded OGS so I am by no means in a situation where it wouldn't be possible for me to fund my education but my partner and I are considering our housing options next year, and he is returning to school, so we would really like to know what our budget will be (holy run on sentence batman). And by extension, if I am lucky enough to receive a SSHRC, I'd like the OGS money to land in someone else's hands sooner rather than later. Anyway, that is my rant. I'll be sending all the good vibes your way and hoping that everyone ends up in a situation that best suits them.
